Hard Mucus In Sinus
Is it serious if x-rays show the nasal sinus cavities completely opaque and I have very thick almost glue-like mucous that is hard to blow out?
Glue-like nasal mucu: It is not serious that the x-rays show complete opacification. This finding is not specific for diagnosis of a sinus infection. Primary therapy should focus on alleviating nasal inflammation and thinning and improving mucus flow. This includes a mucus thinner like guafenasin, saline nasal rinses, increasing hydration and use a nasal steroid like flonase. Managing allergy symptoms is critical. ...Read more

What does the word endatemous really mean. I got my xray done to check sinus. It said that the mucus membranes were endatemous?
Mucosal thickening: "Edematous" can mean swollen, but technically suggests there is extra fluid in the tissues. In the context of the sinuses, this term is a bit imprecise. Mucosal "thickening" is the preferred term, as there are many possible causes that don't necessarily involve "edema." this thickening may indicate some inflammation or infection in the sinuses or a problem with sinus drainage. ...Read more
