Hard Lump Posterior Wall Pharynx
Small hard lump deep within neck for two months. Ultrasound results say "No visible mass. There is shadowing 5 mm calcification in the deep soft tissue of the left posterior neck, seems to correspond to a palpable lump". Feeling scared about this?
Great that you had it checked. Did you have any sort of prior injury to that spot? Even acne can leave a calcification behind after it heals. Did the radiologist recommend repeating the sonogram in 6-12 months? Might help to see if there is a change over time.
Don't worry, but do recheck it. ...Read more
Looking in my throat I noticed small white patch/lump on posterior pharyngeal wall. It is been there a while always the same size. Is it cancer?
Biopsy could help: Commonly white lines or patches in the oral pharynx may be due to irritation, so called leukoplakia; however, pre-malignant lesions called dysplasia may present as red or white discrete lesions in the oral pharynx as well, but you are quite young for that. Occasionally infections or some inflammatory conditions may also present as white plaques in the mouth. A clinical exam could help. ...Read more
Unusual: It could be an infection (in which case your throat will hurt when you swallow food). Such bumps can be enlarged tonsils whichcan get infection and show yellow spots on the surface. If you are concerned you should show it to your GP or seek and ENT specialist's opinion. I do not think they are dangerous unless there is sore throat in which case it could be strept throat requiring antibiotic treatm ...Read more

Have 5-6 mm calcified lump in the posterior neck, doctor recommend imaging. Should do MRI with and without contrast or CT w/ contrast? Benefits/risks?
Neither!: If you know the lump is calcified, you're best off not doing any imaging. If you want to know what it is, go to a surgeon or pathologist who can manage a simple biopsy, probably in his office, to figure out what it is. A FNA (fine needle aspiration) may work out for you. If you REALLY need to know if it is solid or a cyst, then ultrasound is better. CT involves radiation. MRIs are $$. Avoid them. ...Read more

Had posterior vagina wall repair 2 weeks ago. Weird bumps and lumps all around the sutures, looks like little balls of flesh. Causes? Will it go away?
Probably normal: Tissue trauma from surgery initiates the body's natural healing mechanisms including the development of platelet rich plasma (PRP). The gel matrix that forms looks like swollen tissue. If you have ever had a scab that you looked under, the yellow "goo" in a wound is platelet rich plasma which is healing the trauma of a tissue wound. A discharge that looks like pus would be abnormal. ...Read more

May be neck muscle: If it is really behind the neck, it isn't likely to be a gland. The glands are mainly on the front side of the neck. One of the larger back of the neck muscles may be larger than the other side, or may be swollen from being over used. This muscle is called the trapezius, if you want to look it up and confirm that is where the swelling is at. ...Read more
