I'm a 23 year-old female with a painful hard vein in my armpit. Why could this be and what can I do about it? Could this have to do with breastfeeding even though the painful vein is a good distance from the breasts?

In : In a patient who is actively breast feading a palpable lump or cord can be indicative of a clogged duct. This condition is treatable by your physician or lactation consultant. However, if there is an identifiable "vein", your assessment may be correct. Regardless, you should report this to your primary doctor or your ob/gyn physician. Depending on their assessment, an ultrasound can be very helpful to futher evaluate whether it is a vascular issue or breast duct issue. ...Read more

Call your PCP: It is apparent you have an abscess on your nipple & may need additional prescription medications. Placing a heating pad against your breast & allowing the material to drain can help in the interim. Your pcp may want to determine the extent of the problem & provide specific rx . I don't think an er visit would be worth your time but would get this taken care of soon. ...Read more

Be examined: It may be a blocked milk duct but impossible to diagnose without an exam. See your doctor for an exam and consider an US. If it is red warm and tender it may be an area of infection. Try a cool pack and Tylenol for relief. All the best. ...Read more

Feel lumps in breasts close to nipples. Not rock hard, but also not squishy. They seem to move a bit. I'm breastfeeding and dr says it's milk ducts?

Probably!: Lumps and bumps during breastfeeding are very common, and most often a result of clogged ducts. Regular breast feeding, or pumping, with the help of warm compresses are the best ways to help prevent and treat these clogged ducts. However, any lump that doesn't improve in 72 hours, redness, fevers, or intense pain should be evaluated by your doctor. ...Read more

Lymphadenopathy: The doctor examining you is in the best position to make these decisions. Lymph nodes enlarge when they are doing what they are there for, fighting inflammation, and have some characteristics that can only be assessed by examining them. That is what your doctor is trained to do and she should be listened to. Best wishes. ...Read more
