Needs to be checked: It needs to be checked by your doctor as it may be a hematoma, a benign bony tumor as it is not painful. So make an appointment with your primary care doctor

This is the kind: Of thing that you can watch for a few days, but if it hasn't resolved or is in fact worse. "causing more pain". it is time for you to see your Doctor. An expert physical examination and possibly some tests (plain skull x-ray or CT) will likely be helpful. Most fluid filled cysts are not hard, but there is a chance the lump could be aspirated. Unsure without: A physical exam but it sounds like it may be a lymph node. Have you been sick lately or had any infections? Is it sore or tender to touch? Without feeling it and seeing exactly where it is, it is hard to tell. Monitor for size change and if it gets smaller over the next week or two and disappears, assume lymph node. Skull projecttion: There is an anchor point for your jaw/face muscles called the mastoid process that juts out just behind the ear on both sides. It can be felt easily because we don't have fat or muscle over that point. If what you detect is more like a lump and rubbery it could be a lymph node. These are normal structures. ...Read more
