Probably the latter.: I cannot think of correlation between pleural effusion and atelectasis causing hand numbness, though positional symptoms might suggest it. More importantly, the underlying cause of the pleural effusion might have something to do with hand symptoms. Perhaps your doctor might have a better explanation. ...Read more

You really need to have "him" see a doctor who can have an actual conversation with "him" and examine "him" because I doubt you'll get any kind of satisfactory answer this way.
