45/f. Arm & hand pain while sleeping. Also wake up w/ arms tingling from arms falling asleep during night. Pain also wakes me up at night. ?
Possible Carpal Tun: There are other possibilities, but the most likely cause for your symptoms is carpal tunnel syndrome. This is the result of compression of the median nerves at the wrists and it is common for people to wake up to "shake out the numbness." i would recommend that you see a neurologist, but while you are waiting you can ice the wrists, try otc ibuprofen, and buy carpal tunnel splints for nighttime. ...Read more

Quantity vs Quality: While you're describing an adequate quantity of sleep, you may be suffering from poor quality sleep, for instance, sleep apnea, which can lead to inappropriate sleeping during the day. What causes a person to have difficulty falling asleep and waking and sweating a lot during sleep?
Woke up with both hands slightly swollen. I do remember falling asleep on them during the night which cut off circulation. Took Benedryl for hives?
What hives?: If you fall asleep with hand/arm in wrong position, it can swell a little or even get weak for several hours. As long as using them/moving makes the swelling go away and it does not become a recurring event, then it is not likely a problem.
