Shouldn't use it.: Fluocinonide can be used to control psoriasis, but should not be used in open wounds especially if you suspect that it maybe infected. I suspect the stinging you feel is from the alcohol content of the solution which may well work as an antiseptic. ...Read more

Putting hand sanitizer on a skin allergic rash?

Rash has been present for about a month. Neck first, then upper back. Neck disappeared now slight.

Hand sanitizer on: a rash is not helpful and may even make things work. You need to find out the cause of the rash, e.g., allergy to a specific food, clothing, metal, etc. Your doc can help you w/this. Please see him or her. Avoid any lotions that contain alcohol, which is drying. ...Read more

Child scratched me after swam in dirty pool, broke skin, little blood. Hand sanitizer, washed 5 min w/ soap. How long to know it's not infected? Days?

Couple of days: If it does not become, red, swollen or painful by a couple of days since the incident, you should be okay. You may apply Neosporin ointment to the wound. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

Had protected sex & have balanitus after putting hand sanitizer on my penis in sept. no blisters. red spots on head, red Corona/foreskin.risk of hsv?

Had protected sex & have balanitus after putting hand sanitizer on my penis in sept. no blisters. red spots on head, red Corona/foreskin.risk of hsv?

Probably not herpes: Herpes doesn't cause this sort of problem, especially when it lasts several months. This sounds like garden variety fungal (yeast) or nonspecific balanitis, very common in uncircumcised men. Probably not caused by hand sanitizer, even if that was just before the problem started. Retract foreskin and wash 2x daily w/ soap & water. See a dermatologist if it continues after that. ...Read more

Possibility I touched something after someone who could have hiv. I have dry broken skin on my hands. Could I pick up the infection by this?

No: HIV is transmitted via sex, or blood transfusion or use of contaminated needle ( or from Mom to baby with birth/pregnancy/ breast feeding) It is very remotely possible to transmit via contact with contaminated blood to an open wound. An HIV patient who was not bleeding does not contaminate something by touching it. ...Read more

Dry broken skin on my hands and contact with my cat and dog. Should i to avoid their saliva on skin or only if they bite me is it risk of infection?

Wash: Rabies seems unlikely. Bacteria in a dog's mouth sometimes cause infections when injected deep by a bite. The contact you describe rarely results in problems. Soak hands in hot water, then rub in a cream for dry skin. ...Read more

Touching a rusty gate when I have dry, broken skin on my hands. Is there a risk of infection, such as tetanus?

Touching a rusty gate when I have dry, broken skin on my hands. Is there a risk of infection, such as tetanus?

Infection: This is highly unlikely, although nothing is impossible. Infection can be introduced into the body any time there are breaks in the integument (skin and mucous membranes) since this is our primary immune defense. On the other hand it would be virtually impossible to get tetanus in this manner. This organism would have to be deposited in tissue without blood supply and produce toxin. Don't worry. ...Read more
