First you must ice i: the first 24 hours are critical. you must first ice it on and off every 20 minutes or so. take an ibuprofen or advil for pain. do not take tylenol (acetaminophen) or aspirin. you need an advil or ibuprofen. you need to rest it and talk it over with your coach to better assess your plan for a comeback. I have a partial torn hamstring(right leg). A bruise appears at the gluteous fold and area behind the kneecap. What? Concern?
Broken blood vessel: Bruising in both areas may be from the same source of bleeding. Will likely resolve, but compartment syndrome is a concern, ie, swelling to the point that nerves are squeezed. Cutting it close: A true grade 2 tear of a hamstring involves actual separation of muscle tissue and bleeding and subsequent inflammatory response locally. This can often be a 6 to 8 week injury to heal. This precludes the training required for the event and coming back too soon can lead to recurrent and actually a worse injury. Not likely.: A bruise is not a sign of a blood clot. It is a sign of bleeding from some type of injury usually. Are you on aspirin or other blood thinners? If yes, then you are at increased risk of bleeding from any injury. If you are concerned about a blood clot, you should see your Dr. who could do an ultrasound on the leg to check for it. ...Read more
