I injured my hamstring about 5 days ago and i'm just starting to get some bruising around the bend of my knee. What should I do?
Hamstring: The "hamstrings" are the muscles that flex the knee, and can be injured easily. The bruising that you have came from bleeding that resulted from a tear in the muscle and will settle to the lowest point. Gentle range of motion exercises, flexing and extending the knee and if there is a lot of stiffness massage and warming the area. Physical therapy and a home program are good choices and time. ...Read more
Three weeks ago i pulled my hamstring yesterday i saw a bruise behind my knee its not where the pain of my pulled hamstring used to be is that normal?
I have a partial torn hamstring(right leg). A bruise appears at the gluteous fold and area behind the kneecap. What? Concern?
Broken blood vessel: Bruising in both areas may be from the same source of bleeding. Will likely resolve, but compartment syndrome is a concern, ie, swelling to the point that nerves are squeezed. Emergent surgery would be required to relieve swelling. Seek care for pale skin below, numbness, or increasing deep/burning pain. Avoid aspirin or nsaids for a couple of days. ...Read more
Grade 2 hamstring tear 2 days ago, heard pop, no bruise. Mobility low, but improving. Steep ski slope 3-mile mud run coming in 7 weeks. Advisable?
Cutting it close: A true grade 2 tear of a hamstring involves actual separation of muscle tissue and bleeding and subsequent inflammatory response locally. This can often be a 6 to 8 week injury to heal. This precludes the training required for the event and coming back too soon can lead to recurrent and actually a worse injury. A good course of physical therapy with a pt that understands the injury is beneficial. ...Read more

If yes, then you are at increased risk of bleeding from any injury. If you are concerned about a blood clot, you should see your Dr. who could do an ultrasound on the leg to check for it. ...Read more
Is it possible to have an injury to the hamstring muscle(s) or tendon(s) without bruising that would feel tender and like a bulge when touching it?
Tight hamstring in soccer game. After 3 days bruise on hamstring and upper calf. Pain 7/10 in lower leg/calf. Wakes me up at night. Very active person?

Pain in hamstring with movements, no swelling no bruising, pain started 30 hours after workout but doesn't feel like DOMS. Blood clot?
Exercise related: You worked out. Then you noted pain in hamstrings. This most likely represents sore muscles from the workout. If you are otherwise healthy and 18 years old? I would stretch the area of soreness. You note no pain at rest no swelling... Thus unlikely a blood clot. If you are short of breath, recently on birth control then see doctor immediately as that would be concern for clot. ...Read more
