Hair Loss (Definition)

Hair loss, otherwise known as alopecia, can be caused by different reasons, including damage to the hair shaft or follicles or fungal infections. There are two main types of alopecia. Alopecia areata occurs when the body's immune system attacks hair follicles and causes hair to fall out. Androgenetic (or androgenic) alopecia, on the other hand, is an inherited form of hair loss. With alopecia areata, hair can fall out in patches all over the body. With androgenetic alopecia, hair on the head first thins and then falls out. In men, this is called male pattern hair loss; in women, it is called ...Read more

Can long term exposure to certain chemicals cause hair loss?

Can long term exposure to certain chemicals cause hair loss?

Unlikely: Thallium poisoning is famous. Do you have any enemies? Hopefully you are not around plutonium. If you're having hair loss that's not male pattern baldness, the usual workup is in order, especially a thyroid check. If this is unproductive, it's unlikely that any chemical exposure will be found as the cause. ...Read more

PRP: I really like PRP in hair that is thinning, but not necessarily to the point of wanting a transplant yet. You can get improvement with just one treatment, but usually really good results with 2-3 treatments, one every 3-4 months. Topical minoxidil and finasteride oral can be helpful as well, but require continuous daily dosing. Light/laser treatments might be helpful also. ...Read more

How long does it take zinc induced hair loss to go away ?

Confusing: Not exactly sure if you are referring to zinc deficiency or not. But on web, i found this quote: there is a lack of objective data about hair loss without skin shedding. At one time, there was a widespread belief that zinc deficiency is a common cause. However, zinc supplementation has not been shown to improve hair loss, even when a deficiency is suspected. I would consult doctor. ...Read more

How long does it take the ferritin levels to be normal? Its been 2 months now I am on ferose f medication but still suffering from hair loss.

Can you explain?: Ferose-f is weak, candy-fied iron and folic acid. I'm going to assume that you came to your physician with hair loss of some sort, were found to be iron deficient on a serum ferritin lab assay, and given this as treatment. You should insist on being told why you are iron-deficient if you're not a vegetarian, and the actual cause of your hair loss needs to be addressed. Get 2nd opinion. ...Read more

It takes: A minimum of 6-12 weeks to get your thyroid level back near normal before more normal hair growth restarts, and then takes many months to grow out since hair grows in cycles.
