Hormones: Estrogen declines more quickly in menopause than does testosterone. When estrogen declines the effects of testosterone (hair loss) become more apparent. It's frustrating. Is there anyway to stop severe hair breakage? Im losing a lot of hair suddenly. I hve chemically treated hair. But i havnt done anything to it recently

Try moisturizer: Unfortunately, the damage may have been done with the chemical treatment, even if it was some time ago. Also, avoid further irritation such as even things like blow drying hair with high heat... ...Read more

Besides hrt, is there anything i can do to deal with skin and hair changes at menopause?

Tough question!: With menopause comes changes in skin and hair like you are experiencing. Hair loss is common and results from "male pattern losses" and thinning of the caliber of the hair itself. This is called androgenic alopecia. It is treatable using male hair loss medications, but this would require lifetime use! skin changes, likewise, are difficult to treat. Don't take hormones just for these symptoms! ...Read more

So scared to take estra noreth for menopause. Already losing hair gaining weight. I'm hypothyroid too. Will it help?

Yes it will help: Menopause is defined as no period for 12 months. I am assuming you meet these criteria. "hair loss" is a common complaint as women age. The term for it is "androgenic alopecia" and it has as much to do with decreased hair caliber as decreased hair number. Hormone replacement therapy will likely slow this process. Also check with your doctor and make sure your thyroid has been tested! ...Read more
