Nerve (Definition)

The brain and spinal cord communicates with what is occurring in the internal organs and limbs by nerve fibers where are like electrical wires with insulation (myelin) and the "copper" (axon). Within brain and spinal cord these nerves connect to other nerves via synapses on both axons and dendrites. A nerve can carry information regarding sensations, and ...Read more

Neck cracking/popping, forehead/scalp tingling, the result of pinched nerves in neck from bulges at C5-C6 and C6-C7 via neck MRI? MRI's and CT's of brain were normal. Thanks.

Neck cracking/popping, forehead/scalp tingling, the result of pinched nerves in neck from bulges at C5-C6 and C6-C7 via neck MRI? MRI's and CT's of brain were normal. Thanks.

Does not correlate.: The disk bulges at C5-C7 should affect your arm & neck, not the forehead & scalp. Many people live their ENTIRE LIVES with bulging disks & don't complain of any pain, so MRI or CT scan to "diagnose" bulging disks is actually a gross misuse of imaging. Talk to your doctor or a neurologist about your symptoms to undergo accurate testing. Or use HealthTap Prime. Good luck to you; hope you find cause. ...Read more

I have had surgery on neck with fusion on c4-6 and now I have denderative artihis and my c2-3 are mildly chanaging will bone growth cell device help so I won't have to go back and fuse them soon?

Probably not: Bone growth stimulator will aid in forming new bone to allow fusion to occur after surgery. It will not work at another level and act on a degenerative joint in the side. ...Read more

I have had two neck surgeries in 3 years - fusion c4-5, artificial joint (c2-3) and and cage/hip graft c5-6. Last 24 hours, severe quad twitch/spasm?

Hard to say: Multiple potential causes of pain and spasm in your "quad". Presumably you mean in your quadriceps, which is in your leg? Usually would be related to the area itself, or a referred or radicular pain which could potentially be related to the back. As high as 20 percent of patients with neck problems can develop similar problems in the back. Don't hesitate to be seen. ...Read more

Can popping your neck and back as a young person cause permanent life long damage or lead to surgery?

Can popping your neck and back as a young person cause permanent life long damage or lead to surgery?

Complex issue; yes,: Likely, because such maneuvers, especially enough to create popping sensations, possibly noise, are inherently generating enough tissue trauma to generate the sensation (sound?), body structure, as in all living systems (all open systems; i.e. everything made of keeps changing), is based on a constant remodeling/rebuilding based on previous structure as an ongoing foundation. ...Read more

My husband fractured his C2 a couple of days ago. They did not opt for surgery or a halo and have him in a neck brace and sent him home the day after the incident. Is this a good sign?

My husband fractured his C2 a couple of days ago. They did not opt for surgery or a halo and have him in a neck brace and sent him home the day after the incident. Is this a good sign?

Depends: This depends on several things: how experienced was the physician who made the diagnosis & treatmrpent plan, your husband's age & health status, the type of fracture (classified type 1, 2 or3-which all have different prognosis's) & whether the fracture was non displaced or displaced and by how much it was angulated if at all. You should get an opinion from an orthopedic surgeon or neurosurgeon. ...Read more

I have spine stenoise. I had surgery in my neck, at c3-c7. I live in chronic pain. I am tired of painkillers and I doexcercise but it does not help. What can I do?

Get a diagnosis: Given that the results if cervical fusion surgery are generally very favorable, I would confirm that the surgery addresses the problem. Most surgical failures revolve around the lack of thorough investigation leaving some problems untreated. Depending upon the type of surgery you had, instability or failure of fusion are possibilities as well. New problems above/below surgery could also be issue. ...Read more

No.: Bun/cr are affected by a variety of factors - volume status, medications, etc but effects are not generally long lasting or even cumulative. If surgery/ anesthesia affected your kidney, your numbers would generally bounce back right away. ...Read more

Advice: Hate to say it, but foot drop is NOT NORMAL, and in your case, likely due to either nerve compression on L-5 nerve root or perhaps transient surgical complication. Suggest, MRI and EMG, perhaps some temporary steroids, and use of an AFO splint to keep foot stable.
Have a meeting with your doctor and get all of this situated. ...Read more

The: The most common pinched nerve a t the elbow is the ulnar nerve in cubital tunnel syndrome. While numbness in the little and ring finger, weakness in the intrinsic muscles of the hand and weakness in several flexor tendons occurs, pain is not commonly a primary symptom. Some who have medial epicondylitia may have pain, and can have concurrent ulnar nerve symptoms.

Anither type of nerve compression at the elbow is so called radial tunnel syndrome. At times radial tunnel is thought to present with similar findings of tennis elbow or lateral epicondylitis.

If you had some lateral or medial epiicndylitis pain could be a component.

Talk to an orthopedit or hand surgeon. ...Read more

Neck cracks/pops, forehead/scalp tingling, is the result of pinched nerves in neck from bulges at C5-C6 and C6-C7 via neck MRI? Brain CTs/MRI's were all normal. Help!

Neck cracks/pops, forehead/scalp tingling, is the result of pinched nerves in neck from bulges at C5-C6 and C6-C7 via neck MRI? Brain CTs/MRI's were all normal. Help!

Tingling: Neck cracking usually emanates from neck ligaments and vertebrae. Pinched nerves in the cervical spine generally cause Sharp, shooting pains in the back of the scalp. Tingling of forehead would be an unusual manifestation. I would be reassured about no significant neurological pathology in your case and would regard the tingling symptoms as more of a nuisance. A neurologist can advise you best. ...Read more

Not: Not all disk herniations cause pain. Emg is helpful to determine which disks and nerves are symptomatic. This information may help determine the disks operated on. Therefore, EMG is often necessary because it may give important information. Good luck! ...Read more
