My son had his appendix removed laproscopicly on June 20th 2017 since his cooperation he has lost weight he has gone from 115 lbs to 98 lbs. Normal?

I don't think so.: He should have gained back a good bit of his weight by now. If his appetite has decreased then there is a reason why. An occult infection or inflammation would be a consideration, although being so far out from his surgery would make this less likely. He should have further evaluation by his primary care physician to determine the cause. ...Read more

If CT Scan results said appendix is visible and functioning normal, could there be something there mistaken for an appendix, because I don't have one?

If CT Scan results said appendix is visible and functioning normal, could there be something there mistaken for an appendix, because I don't have one?

Yes: A CT scan doesn't tell whether the appendix is functioning normally. (We don't really know what the appendix does!)
And certainly there is potential for error in any radiologic imaging test. If you don't have an appendix, then that's not what they saw on the exam. It is worthwhile to speak with the doctor who ordered the exam, and clarify what is happening. ...Read more

How long is it normal for a child wait to go back to school after getting their appendix removed?

How long is it normal for a child wait to go back to school after getting their appendix removed?

It depends: With early appendicitis, a laparoscopic appendectomy, and no complications, the child may be ready to return to school in 3-5 days. With ruptured appendicitis, a still-open wound, or significant complications, it may take several weeks. When the child is tolerating a regular diet, comfortable on at most simple pain meds, and strong enough to walk a good bit and carry a backpack, then return is ok. ...Read more

Was admitted with appendix attack. High white cell and fever with inflamed 8mm appendix. By morning fever broke and levels went down. No surg. Normal?

WELL,...: That is a discussion to be made between you and the surgeon. Once you had an appendicitis attack and "lived" to tell about it, there is always the chance you may have future attacks, and if you are not near the hospital (out camping for example), you may not be so lucky, so some may opt to have it removed now while at the right place at the right time. Best wishes. ...Read more
