Is there a quality difference between vivelle (estradiol) brand estrogen patches and generic ones, e.G., estradot 17b?
Ive been taking 1mg estradiol + 100mg progesterone for almost 2 months. My estrogen levels are still very low, how long will it take to see increase?
Unclear plan: I would clarify with the doctor what you are taking and why you are taking it. The answer depends on the underlying problem being treated. For example, If you have premature ovarian failure then one would base treatment on symptoms not blood estrogen levels. Other diseases treatment could be based on LH/ FSH levels. ...Read more
Ive been taking 1mg estradiol + 100mg progesterone for almost 2 months. My estrogen levels are still very low, should I have seen an increase by now?
Strange regimen: This is a strange hormonal regimen for a 27 year old. This looks for more like a regimen for someone who is post menopausal or for someone with hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism. I would clarify with your doctor what your diagnosis is and confirm that you are on the correct medication and dose. Ask for your FSH and LH levels and get a 2nd opinion if plan is unclear. ...Read more
Partial hyst, 50 and smoker trying to quit. What the my risks taking vaginal estrogen like vagifem or estrace (estradiol)?
Little Risk: Vagifem are estrace (estradiol) vaginal cream act locally. Without a Family History of breast cancer, the risk is very little. You should try to quit smoking to decrease your risk of lung cancer, emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. I'm not sure what you mean when you say you had a partial hysterectomy. If you mean you still have a cervix, then you may get some spotting if your cervix has endometrial cells. ...Read more
Is it ok to take estrogen in the form of estradiol valerate during pregnancy as my e2 is low as my dr recommended so but i'm afraid to take it ?
Ask how it helps you: Information on Estradiol valerate says it's not for use during pregnancy, but maybe the reproductive endocrinologist or infertility specialist has a special reason for using it. Just call the doctor or visit the doctor, to get an explanation of the benefit of, or need for the medication, and hopefully that will help relieve worries. ...Read more
My estrogen level was 5600 before fresh cycle. I was prescribed IM progesterone and PO estrace (estradiol). If my estrogen level was why do I need to take estrace (estradiol)?
Unclear: That will need to be addressed with the prescribing physician. The answer likely depends on what problem the doctor was trying to fix and what your goals of treatment are. Without that information there is no way to comment ...Read more
Synthetic meds: 1st no such thing as free lunch ie there's always some potential risk or side effect. 2nd FDA only approves meds which they deem benefit greater than risk (tho obviously not w/o disagreement & controversy). 3rd no studies demonstrate benefit of any oral estrogen over another tho some studies suggest topical safe than oral. 4th Natural isn't safe than synthetic ie tobacco is natural but isn't safe! ...Read more
What is the normal estrogen level range for a post menopausal woman using estradiol and progesterone. My blood test reading is 73.60 pg/ml.

My progesterone to estrogen ratio is 15:1. I am 44 had recent blood tests, 4 days before period. Progesterone was 0.4, estradiol was 23. E dominant?
Female Hormones: Complex answer. . At your age it is not uncommon to experience high levels of estrogen - a so-called "estrogen dominant state." assuming you are not taking hrt drugs, and you are still ovulating normally, the increased estrogen levels may be due to the natural decline in Progesterone as you approach menopause, due to the natural decline in corpus luteum function or excess fat stores. ...Read more
3/3/14 faint +hpt. 3/5/14 + blood test wit 55 progesterone and low estrogen. Got on vivelle (estradiol) 3/5/14. Spotted lil red n brown 3/4/14 . Hpt today neg?
Confirm with blood : I would ask your doc to repeat the blood test to be sure, but it sounds like a "chemical pregnancy" where the blood tests show you are pregnant briefly, but the pregnancy never develops. Alternatively, you have a bad batch of home pregnancy tests (hopefully). But to be realistic, your levels should be rising quickly at this point, making it more detectable on hpt. Good luck. ...Read more
Best 2mg estradiol/100mg progestrn dosing regime to trigger period in 27yr old w/ 2yr amenorrhea? All tests normal (@fertility clinic), estrogen low.
What are goals? : The treatment depends on the goals. You mention a fertility clinic. If you are trying to get treatment would be modified to help stimulate ovulation. If you're simply trying to regulate the menstrual cycles birth control pills would be the most common option. If you're experiencing premature ovarian failure then other considerations are necessary to manage this problem ...Read more
My morning cortisol level is 40 ug/dl (high). I have low estrogen (31 yr old female) and am on estrace (estradiol). What cld be causing the high level?
Without confirmation: by repeat testing, other additional lab, a good history/physical -- the single test doesn't confirm anything. Much more evaluation is needed. Check w/your physician. ...Read more
Yasmin (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) CP has 3mg synthetic progesteron while microgynon contains only 150 micrograms. Why such difference if both contain 30micrograms synth.Estrogen?
Does bcp yasmin (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) have more of estrogen or more of progesterone in it?
Appropriate amounts : Birth control pills all contain standard doses of estrogen and progesterone. The combination is what inhibits ovulation and provides cycle control. It does not really make sense to compare the levels between these two due to a pharmacology concept called bioavailability. ...Read more
IF you have vaginal atrophy and have a total estrogen of 134, progesterone 13.6 and estradiol of 13.0 but still feel bad what hormone is off. ?
What is better to treat low estrogen in 30 yr old female (6 p/mg), Premarin (conjugated estrogens) , estradiol or birth control?
Depends: If you have an intact uterus then I would use a birth control pill as it provides both the estrogen and progesterone you need to prevent pregnancy and endometrial hyperplasia. If you have had a hysterectomy than both premarin (conjugated estrogens) and estradiol (estrace) would be fine. The estrogen in birth control by the way is estradiol as well. Birth control also lowers ovarian cancer risk (combined pills only) ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
