Why do male gynecologists pretend they understand my pain? "you'll feel 'pressure'" "i know it hurts" what's the point in lying? It makes me angrier.

Pain: Doctors take care of thousands of patients in their careers. They learn to recognize and anticipate the patient's symptoms and responses. They aren't lying any more than a female gynecologist who's never had a baby can tell you it will hurt. They are trying to reassure and prepare you so you won't think something's wrong , or be surprised by a sudden discomfort. It's all in the service of helping. ...Read more

On the other hand, the virginity thing is highly over-rated, and not very important except in issues of pregnancy, std's, psychological symptoms, and unfortunately, sexual assaults. ...Read more

What to expect when going to gynecologist?

What to expect when going to gynecologist?

Depends: What happens at a Gyn visit depends on how old you are and why you are going. Most Gyns won't do a pap until age 21 and STD testing can often be done using urine. If you do need an exam, a nurse will be present. Its usually very quick and allows your Gyn to swab the cervix and vagina for certain tests. If it is your first visit, most docs will show you what they are going to do. Best wishes! ...Read more
