But in general terms, a numbing injection can cause complete loss of sensation or, if the effect isn't as strong, may just "soothe the pain." all numbing injections should wear off after a few hours though, so see a physician if your problem persists. ...Read more

You R talking about : possible neuropathy or circulatory issues of your fingertips, and numb gums, two different possibilities. Make sure to contact your dentist for gum issues, and your PCP for your numb fingertips. That is not normal, and you'll need further work up regarding your circulation.
