Gum Flare Ups After Eating Spicy Foods
Spicy foods: Especially in people with acid reflux, spicy foods can cause hyperacidity. The best way to avoid this is to avoid the foods in the first place, but if you're having heartburn after eating spicy foods, taking chewable or liquid antacids such as Tums (calcium carbonate) or Mylanta often helps. Regular use of medications to decrease stomach acid is sometimes necessary too. If this is frequent, see your doctor. Good luck ...Read more

Need prof cleaning: I suspect you have gums that aren't as healthy as they can be. Healthy gums will not bleed nor be tender after any eating. If you gums are inflammed to start with, then food will get more easily impacted into the gums and when you clean the gums with floss, it will bleed and be tender. Get a good cleaning and exam by a dentist to eliminate advanced periodontal disease (which you might have). ...Read more

After eating lunch my upper gums broke out in miniscule water blisters. Not just one or two, but hundreds, very very small. I didn't eat anything odd.
May help clean teeth: Gum chewing can clean teeth to a certain degree. The action of the gum rubbing on the surfaces of the teeth will scour off some plaque. However it tends to miss the areas where decay starts: at the margin where the gums are and in between teeth. It won't hurt, if sugarless gum, but doesn't replace brushing and flossing. ...Read more

Gastroenterology: This does not sound like periodontal disease - although it could be a necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis to produce that degree of odor. If you've seen a dentist and they have ruled out an oral cause and you have acid reflux, it may be coming from this. Consult a gastroenterologist or an ENT doctor to evaluate you! Best of luck. ...Read more
