Can you tell me what to do if i found out i was positice for group b strep. I don't really understand what it means if its bad?
Ignore it: Group b strep is a periodic visitor to the digestive tract and at any given time 30% of women may have it show up on a vaginal swab. Except for it's well known nasty habit of infecting newborns ; occasionally causing urinary tract infections it can be just a benign hitchhiker in your system. I have group b strep bacteria in my urine. I had a urine culture and that's what it showed and now i also have a small amount of blood in my urine.
Since 2013 urine cultures show group b strep 50000-100000. Delivered 2 babies gbs+ for both. Is this somethig that will always show in my urine? Harm?
Please treat: The fact that you had 2 infants with GBS means your next infant is a some risk as well. Your physician should give you antibiotics to eradicate this organism from the urine. You may be a carrier for GBS and may not be able to remove it totally from your body. Please tell the Pediatrician/Neonatologist about your history so they can screen the infant. Can a positive urine culture with group b strep, but normal urinalysis confirm a UTI? Or likely to not be a UTI?
Confirm a UTI: Group B strep is usually a gut bacteria. If there are symptoms such as burning on urination foul-smelling urine for the positive culture it is most likely a urinary tract infection.
