I had open inguinal hernia surgery a few days ago, i noticed a lot of swelling at and around the incision, is this normal, what causes this, how long should it last and what could I do to reduce it.

Ihad umbilical hernia surgery last year. A few months ago swelling has appeared above navel. Doc said it was lack of muscle tone. Still concefned?

Alternatively, you may have developed a recurrent hernia. I suggest you return to see your hernia surgeon or seek out a second opinion--this is easily resolved by a careful hernia exam. Good luck! ...Read more

When is surgery required for an umbilical hernia? My 15 month old still has one. He had hernia surgery@2months for hernias in his groin area.

Maybe never!: 95% or more of umbilical hernias resolve by 4 years old. If it hasn't resolved by then, your child's doctor can refer you to a surgeon. Unless intestine gets strangulated in the hernia, best to leave it alone for now. ...Read more

Is groin hernia surgery with Prefix Plug Mesh safe? Saw lots of good and bad things about it

Short answer yes: There has been a lot of research comparing the different ways to fix hernias. There is really very little difference. The most important factor is what method your surgeon is most comfortable using. There have been reports of complications with all mesh hernia repairs but are not common. The thing is, repair without mesh is not close to as reliable as with mesh. Talk to your surgeon more. ...Read more
