A lymph node "tastes" the lymph to see if anything bad is there like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and enlarges in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They may be painful. ...Read more

I run 30-50 miles per wk and have had enlarged groin lymph nodes for months. Recently turned painful (rt & left) is this associated with my running?
Not necessarily.: Swollen groin lymph nodes can be due to many reasons depending on the overall assessment. If it is painful, it may be infection. If there are other lymph nodes that are swollen, then you may need further work up. Swollen groin lymph nodes are very common, usually because many times people do not wear socks when wearing shoes. Hard to say!: Have you been checked for std's? Shaving, waxing, harsh soaps, overscrubbing, scents can all cause enough irritation in the skin to cause lymph nodes to react and swell. If none of these could be the reason, and stopping or treating them does not help, you need further evaluation to figure out what's going on. Congratulations on being skinny enough to be able to feel them! (The silver lining!) ...Read more

If nodes increase in size and number than excisional bx indicated. FNA is rarely of value in lymph node pathology. ...Read more
2 groin lymph nodes excised both dermatopathic lymphadenitis features. Had razor burn rash before lymph nodes appeared is this why dermatopathic?
Unusual: Unusual to remove lymph nodes from groin unless pain, drainage, rapid growth, rock-hard consistency. The term is meant to convey the idea of lymph node reaction to something in skin. Perhaps, even probably, the inflammation after shaving was the cause. The DR who did the surgery should check your feet, etc., then discuss this with you. ...Read more
Intermittent fever of 101, body aches, and moderate pain in groin lymph nodes for 3 days. No other symptoms. Does this sound like a virus?
Yes and no: The first part of your description sounds like a classic viral syndrome: fever, body aches, but moderate pain in the groin (inguinal) lymph nodes could point to a more serious bacterial infection. I would recommend seeing your gynecologist or primary care provider to determine why you have the lymph node swelling. It may be viral, but it would be safer to get a physical exam to be sure. ...Read more
