Probably: Get area examined. An ultrasound or ct scan can see hernia also but usually just need examination by someone experienced with hernias; typically a surgeon.

Femoral Hernia (Definition)

A hernia is a defect in the abdominal wall allowing contents within the abdomen to protrude. The most common hernias are inguinal (lower abdomen around the pubic bone) or umbilical (around the bellybutton). A femoral hernia is less common and occurs where the blood vessels enter the leg. When there is an external lump, it shows up in the upper front part of the leg. ...Read more

I have a lump that bulges out in my groin area. I believe this is inguinal hernia. But however i don't seem to have any pain at all. Why is this so?

Not yet incarcerated: History is consistent with an inguinal hernia. May not be painful since nothing is stuck - incarcerated or strangulated - which can be an emergency. Recommend prompt evaluation by a general surgeon.

10d since my open inguinal hernia repair. A painless, hard lump, like a thick cord has appeared in my scrotum (side of incision). What could it be?

10d since my open inguinal hernia repair. A painless, hard lump, like a thick cord has appeared in my scrotum (side of incision). What could it be?

Here are some ...: At times, some hardening along spermatic cord resulting from some local blood infiltration after hernia repair may occur and takes time to resolve slowly. if not resolved in 2-3 months, seek pro-evaluation for confirmation and counseling.

I have a lump that comes on my right hand side of the penis especially when I work long hours or when i stand for long. Is this an inguinal hernia?

Sounds like it: Without examining you its hard to tell, but it sounds very much like an inguinal hernia is a possibility. If it is not painful or getting stuck, it is not an emergency. I would recommend seeing a general surgeon for evaluation. Elective repair is recommended in order to prevent future complications.

Inguinal hernia repair w/ PHS mesh in 2008. Since then, a hard lump has formed under the incision scar, and it's painful in 2015. Lipoma? Thoughts?

Inguinal hernia repair w/ PHS mesh in 2008. Since then, a hard lump has formed under the incision scar, and it's painful in 2015. Lipoma? Thoughts?

Possibilities are: hypertrophic scar, recurrent hernia, or delayed infection. See your original surgeon or another surgeon if he/she is no longer available. Lipoma is not likely if the lump is hard, because lipoma is usually soft.

Maybe recurrence: Sounds like you could have a recurrence of the hernia. If so, base you activity on pain and discomfort, and see your surgeon, or another general surgeon for an exam to be sure. Good luck.

Yes, ...: Fact: Every condition always displays on its pattern of full spectrum from nothing detectable at its beginning to its full-blown picture at the end. Weak spot in inguinal spot indicates the very early stage of developing hernia, which may progress in a widely variable pace reflecting your muscle strength & lifestyle. How long is recovery and how soon I can drive after a groin / inguinal hernia operation?

A few days: It depends on how long you are taking narcotic pain medication. You should not drive for a couple days after you stop taking the narcotics. This can be as quick as a few days or as long as 2 weeks.

I have a inguinal hernia in my lower groin area. I don't have surgery until late July. What can I do to ease pain til surgery?

Ibuprofen/tylenol ..: BUT !! pain could be a sign you need surgery earlier, especially if you are having abdominal cramping or other signs of intestinal pathology. Pain that is mild and limited to the groin may be ok for a while. If worsening or if more abdominal see your surgeon for earlier surgery
