Dark green diarrhea (based on stool color). Green when wiping with a few black spots. Black seen on TP only. Should I be concerned?
Black stools: The green color is nothing to worry about. It may be bile or something you have eaten. Truly black stools generally should be tested (very simple to do in the doctor's office) to be sure it is not due to old blood. This will probably clear up soon. Bile: A viral infection or food poisoning may be the cause. Green stool is usually caused by rapid transit time in the gut, which can happen when an infection makes the gut mucosa more permeable to water or prevents absorption of your intake. Somewhat concerning: What's concerning is the dark brown and more so black. If you ate something that may look like that, then it's less concerning - though not too many people eat things that are black!. The reason for the concern is that blood can oxidize in the intestinal tract and appear black and vomiting blood is always something for concerned.
