Yes, from caffeine: Green tea has many health benefits, due to its antioxidant effects. There is evidence it can prevent cancer and cardiovascular disease, improve immune function, prevent tooth decay, lower blood sugar and stimulate weight loss. It is safe and generally well tolerated, but it does contain caffeine (though decaffeinated forms are available). Thus, the most common side effects are due to excess caffeine, including insomnia, anxiety, heart palpitations, nausea and vomiting. However, the amount of caffeine in green tea is about 1/4 the amount in coffee, so one will not likely experience such effects unless they drink large quantities. There is also the potential for large amounts of green tea to interact with certain medications- for example, it can reduce the effects of Coumadin (warfarin) (but then again, thousands of substances interact with coumadin!) and lower blood levels of lithium. Green tea is: A metabolism booster, thus it has a reputation for helping w/weight loss. The benefit is minimal in my estimation, but worth adding to to a health food plan an exercise. Peace and good health. Honey is soothing to the throat and an anti-microbial but it is in the sugar family so it's not a free pass because it is "natural." It's a far better choice than refined sugar. I don't know about Strepsil. ...Read more

Is green tea safe to drink 3cups daily for weight loss? What are side effects and benefits of green tea?
Safe, but: It won't help you lose weight. You can only do that by eating less and exercising more -- plus the diet rx's you're already on can help you, but only for as long as you take them. The diet and exercise can work for the rest of your life. If obesity is severe, bariatric surgery should at least be investigated. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Can daily consumption of green tea (I mix it with black tea as well) increase chances of getting kidney stones? The tea is unsweetened.
Probably not: There's a "pop" claim that tea and cola predispose to kidney stones, but little scientific reason. The overriding key to prevention is to keep the urine dilute (always pale, never dark) by drinking plenty of fluids -- the cheapest is tap water, and perhaps tea-drinkers are actually just drinking less of that. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
