Green Poop Formula Fed Baby
3 months old infant.. Recently changed formula from 'novalac' to 'NAN' pooping continuously after every fed. Is it normal?
Common: In infants it is common for them to have a bowel movement after each feed. Most important is to see if the child is behaving and responding well. If baby is sucking well, feeding well, has no vomiting, smiles and is active, there is no cause for concern. But if you remain worried take the baby to a pediatrician to have the baby checked. ...Read more

1 month old, formula feed infant has dark green poop that smells like skunk (sometimes stringy looking)...baby is gassy as well. Is this normal?
Could be: The first thing I would want to make sure is that your child is gaining weight appropriately and thriving. If that is the case, there are numerous things that could be of help, such as different formulas. My 12 week old formula fed infant appears to be constipated. Is there anything I can do to help him have a bowel movement?
Yes, but...: Keep in mind the symptoms of constipation are by definition hard and painful to pass stools. Remember a little pushing and uncomfortableness is ok as long as the stools are soft. Also an every other day stool for some bottle fed babies is fine. Keep in mind the position babies are in as they stool, FLAT ON THEIR BACK. Can you imagine? One oz water and one oz apple juice once will help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Why did my 3 1/2 mo old breast fed babies poop smell different (almost a medicinal smell!) when on erythromycin eye ointment for eye infection?
Hard to say: This could be a situation where antibiotic somehow got on the baby's hand and made its way into the GI tract, OR, possibly something you are eating in your diet could be affecting the poop. The only thing that will prove what caused this is whether the funny poop smell is gone after the eye treatment is stopped for a week or so... ...Read more
Normal: The stool color is provided by the bile from the liver that is adds to fecal debris. It starts out a deep green & changes thru greens to yellows to browns as the germs in the intestines metabolize the bile.Green generally means the stool in question moved through faster or was subject to less change by gut germs. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My formula fed foster baby has realy dark green almost black poop and its really runny..Is this normal ? Also he was a drug and alcohol exposed baby
Yes: Dark green/almost black stools are indeed normal color for some infants. If the stools are totally black, ask doc to check for hidden blood. But just very dark green are okay, as are the various yellow, greens, oranges and browns. Bad color is pure white, totally black, or red bloody. ( purple would be weird too, but i've seen that only after purple birthday cake!) also, runny is good for baby poo. ...Read more
