Recently suffered with a cold, the cough I have had for 7 days now. Coughing up green phlegm with blood and coughing when exhaling, pain in chest?
Phlegm is the thick, sticky mucus secreted by the surface of the respiratory tract during a cold or other respiratory infection. The respiratory tract includes the nose and sinuses, throat, voice box, bronchi, and lungs. Phlegm is mucus that may contain bacteria, viruses, respiratory surface cells, and inflammatory cells. Normal mucus is not phlegm, but a protective layer secreted ...Read more

I am experiencing cough (quality: blood in phlegm, with phelgm or mucus) and arm pain. The following also describes me: Chest congestion. Green and yellow phlegm with blood.. Was prescribed zpak. But afraid to take. Is there a substitute?
Take as prescribed: This sounds like a potentially serious infection, maybe even pneumonia. "Afraid to take" azithromycin (Zpak) is not rational; it is a very safe antibiotic with few side effects. Not treating your infection is MUCH riskier than any potential problem from the antibiotic. Take it as prescribed; if you remain concerned, discuss with the doctor who prescribed it. ...Read more
IM 25 weeks pregnant and have had a severe cold / cough this week. Bloody nose the past 3 days , mucus is a very dark green. Today my phlegm had blood?
See a doctor: With these sorts of symptoms, you need answers. I would worry that your platelet count might have dropped as a result of the viral infection - allowing the blood to become thinner, such that you'd have nose bleeding and blood in the sputum. Hopefully you're plugged into an Ob/Gyn practice - I would call them and try to get seen today. If it's after hours and you're not doing well- go to the ER. ...Read more
Had phlegm for last 2 months, no coughing just clearing throat of the phlegm. Green in colour, little blood streaks on 1 or 2 occasions.
Got phlegm ball that has a thick vein like texture with some green coloring & some blood twice in 2 days. I also have a viral infection. What is it?
Hard to know: You may have ruptured a small blood vessel coughing or because of the inflammation due to the infection. You may also have developed a secondary bacterial infection, or the initial diagnosis may have been incorrect. But the answer is that without examining this material and you, it is impossible to tell for certain what this may be. If it keeps up, please go see your doctor. ...Read more
Over the few weeks been coughing up more phlegm white sticky like glue more frequently since having flu, also get blood stain when I blow my nose not always green can be clear I am asthmatic as well?
Mgt and workup: After the flu infection, there can be prolonged inflammation and casts in the airway. Your nose also may be inflamed. I would suggest keeping airway and nasal passages moist with saline and humidification. If you have any fever, pain, chills or night sweats, please see the ED or urgent care. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Have I got lung cancer coughing up tiny bit of blood with green phlegm it's happened 4 times have got a cold and cough I'm scared?
Did xray blood test n doc listened to breathing. Gaveme anti biotics. Finishing tmr but I still have green phlegm n shortness of breath but 50% better?
Wet cough, stuffy nose for 2 months (thick green/white phlegm). Don't smoke, no fever, no allergie, blood test ok, xray ok, no sinus inf.
See a doctor: It sounds like you have seen doctors. How you can be sure you do not have an allergy is beyond me. Suggest that you try nasal saline rinses twice a day with a neti-pot (see your pharmacist), and perhaps combine that with a nasal steroid spray. If you are a smoker or around second hand smoke, stop. The material you bring up needs to be examined, and you need a face to face with a caring doctor. ...Read more

Direahha, chills, severe congestion, no productive cough, chest wheezing, mucus yellow, green & blood tinted when does come up, ears plugged help!
Had tonsillitis week & on erythromycin. Getting rapidly worse -green spots covering tonsils, blood phlem, chills/fever, ear pain. Is this normal?
Maybe not: for bacterial throat infection that will respond to antibiotic, would expect some improvement within 3-4 days. If taking an antibiotic for a week without improvement, and an infection is present, then the infection is either due to something other than bacteria or due to a strain resistant to the antibiotic used. keep the prescribing physician up to date. ...Read more
Has been sick for about 5days, and started to have blood in phlegm. What does this mean and how can I stop it?
Bloody phlegm: Bloody discoloration in phlegm generally comes from small hemorrhages from blood vessels of the respiratory tract (from sinus to lungs) that are caused by inflammation, infection or trauma due to coughing or forceful blowing. I just brought up phlegm and it had blood on it I haven't been coughing I done this two days ago two I don't smoke either ?
Hemoptysis: When you cough up blood - that's called hemoptysis. What matters is 'how much' and 'what' it actually looked like. From your description, this seems minor. What you need to watch out for is continuous symptoms, which could indicate something serious. If in doubt, check with a doctor who can perform a physical to make 100% sure you're OK. ...Read more
