Embarrassing, but what could cause blue green feces? I do not feel sick at all. Could a sudden intake of more iron and zinc cause this?

Blue/green stool: Blue food coloring is a popular food additive, and when ingested in large quantities can make stools appear blue. Blue is not a pigment typically produced by the human GI tract. Blue is however the color of ingestable "indicator" dyes & that a hemoccult card will turn if blood is detected in stool (or it taking a lot of iron, as in your case)--is this to what you are referring? ...Read more

Just pooped jade green feces. Is that normal? It was hard, i haven't eaten anything for the past 2 days, just recovered from a 103.1 fever

May mean nothing: Color of stool in the absence of significant changes in bowel habits seldom means very much. Green may be bile, particularly since you had not eaten. If the fever is gone, you do not have diarrhea, and no other symptoms, suggest you sit tight and this should clear up. If, however, any of the above, see a doctor asap. ...Read more

Good : Good news! the only stool colors we get really concerned about are red (blood from colon), black (blood from small intestine or stomach), or white (liver is not working well). Colors such as brown, yellow, orange, green, even blue (blue kool-aid or blueberries) or purple (beets) can all be normal and usually associated with diet or viral illness. If you have a persistent change in your stool habits, you should contact your physician since this could be a sign of an underlying disorder, but a one-time strange stool that is not red, black or white is usually of no concern. Your symptoms are unlikely related to your water intake during exercise. ...Read more

My husband was diagnosed w/ gallbladder polyps & stones. He passed out green&black feces after drinking olive oil & lemon juice. Were that stones?

Not gallstones: The combination of olive oil, lemon juice, and digestive enzymes in our gut creates "soap stones"; these are not gallstones. There is medication, however, that can sometimes dissolve stones. However, it is an ineffective alternative to surgery--the gb is a "gallstone factory"--new stones will form within a few years. Lastly, a polyp can be pre-malignant: if > 1 cm, the gallbladder should be removed. ...Read more

Should i be concerned if my feces are green? I am 44 years old and menopausal

Should i be concerned if my feces are green? I am 44 years old and menopausal

Hello. : Hello. Although i can’t say why your feces is green; let’s examine possible causes. Since you did not describe any health problems, I am working on the assumption that you feel healthy. One reason could be your diet. Eating foods that contain chlorophyll (i.e., broccoli, spinach or other green leafy vegetables) or taking iron supplements or multiple vitamins that contain iron can lead to green bowel movements. Green food coloring which can be found in foods like popsicles or jello is a possibility. If you have diarrhea and green stools that is a different matter. Bile is green and is excreted into the small intestine. If your stool is moving too fast through your gut, it may not be properly digested and you could end up with green stool from the bile (rather the brown feces). Possible causes of green bowel movements can include: using antibiotics, food poisoning, diarrhea from bacteria or parasites, irritable bowel syndrome, using laxatives, malabsorption and diseases that cause inflammation in varying areas of the gut. It is not uncommon to have green bowel movements once in a while. If you have green bowel movements and you have diarrhea or abdominal pain, that would be a reason to get checked out by the doctor. If your stool is always green and it can’t be explained by supplements, medications or diet, check with your doctor. Take care. ...Read more

I've had two bowel movements today. In each instance, the stool looked normal but there was a bluish-green quality to the water near the feces. Help.

Stool: If the stools were perfectly normal in color and consistency, it doesn't appear that the pigment in the toilet water indicates a bowel abnormality.
