Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

I monitstat 1, 3, or 7 better to use for a yeast infection while I am currently breastfeeding?

I monitstat 1, 3, or 7 better to use for a yeast infection while I am currently breastfeeding?

Where's the yeast?: Miconazole is 'probably' OK. We just don't have any evidence that it does anything bad during breastfeeding. But the golden rule for pregnancy and lactation is to use the lowest effective dose and duration. Your GYN (if it's there) or pediatric (if it's up top) should be able to provide guidance. You don't want to undertreat because then you use more in the end. If it's up to lanolin works to ...Read more

Can my baby give me a yeast infection while breastfeeding?

Can my baby give me a yeast infection while breastfeeding?

Yes: Yes, baby can transmit the yeast from its mouth to your breast tissue. In addition, the act of breastfeeding predisposes to yeast infections as tissue that is covered (bra), dark, warm and moist will often yield an infection. Obviously, with breastfeeding, all those things occur and infections are not uncommon. Call your doctor if you feel there is a problem. ...Read more

On Guard Paraguard!!: Think of it this way: the failure rate for a Paraguard IUD is about 0.8%, which means only 8 out of 1000 women using it will become pregnant. Pretty damn good. The failure rate of other IUDs is a lot more, up to 2%! Having sex on or shortly before/after ovulation will increase the chances of a sperm snagging an ovum, but still, your chances are pretty good of avoiding a pregnancy, but not 100%. ...Read more

I am breastfeeding; my C-section incision is infected and has a yeast infection, could this be what is causing my baby to spit up and be extra gassy?

I am breastfeeding; my C-section incision is infected and has a yeast infection, could this be what is causing my baby to spit up and be extra gassy?

I'm so sorry. It's: Great that you're continuing to breastfeed. If the yeast is on your nipples &/or in baby's mouth, please talk to your pediatrician & OB for treatment for both of you. It can be hard to get rid of. Also, call the birth hospital's nursery for the name of a lactation consultant who can help you. Gas & spitting up may not be related, but it seems both of you are uncomfortable. You're a trooper! ...Read more

Breast feeding while using can I breastfeed my five month old while taking terconazole cream 0.4% (for yeast infection)?

According : According to the lactmed database the safety of terconazole vaginal cream is unknown for breastfeeding mothers. The recommendation is to use another drug if the baby is a newborn or premature. An alternative is Clotrimazole vaginal cream, this can be bought over the counter and is unlikely to cause any adverse affects in a breastfed baby. You can also discuss this further with your doctor or pharmacist. Take care. ...Read more
