Does gout/uric acid crystals make coronary artery blockages worse in my heart?

Does gout/uric acid crystals make coronary artery blockages worse in my heart?

No: Uric acid is not a cause of coronary artery disease. Hypertension is a very common condition and if it coexists with gout, the hypertension can lead to worsening coronary artery disease. However, the gout does not affect the coronary arteries. ...Read more

If I have normal uric acid levels can gout attacks still lead to kidney or heart problems? Thanks

Yes: Uric acid levels are usually, not always, elevated with gout. Chronic gout can cause kidney damage and affect the heart. See these two sites for more info. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/pmh0001459/ http://www.Med.Ucla.Edu/modules/wfsection/article.Php?Articleid=475. ...Read more

What is worse cholesterol or saturated fat for the heart and arteries?

Saturated fat: Saturated (and trans) fats increase bad LDL cholesterol the most. Dietary cholesterol has a minor effect on LDL cholesterol, and actually increases good HDL cholesterol. So the focus should be on cutting saturated fat from meat and dairy fats. Critical point is to replace fats not cut them. So eat more unsaturated vegetable fats rather than more carbs. This a feature of the mediterranean diet. ...Read more

My heartbeat feels very weak and the artery in my neck feels strained, after exercise feels worse heart rate high but can't feel it, cardio tests OK

Weak heart beat: Not enough information and no question. I do not know what you mean by heartbeat. Do u mean pulse in your wrist? I do not know what you mean by artery in neck feels strained. I have never in 50 yeArs of seeing patients have someone tell me this. Heart rate should be high after exercise. Maybe this is all lost in translation. ...Read more

How does tiny arteries to the heart affect procedures?

Ensure blood supply: The question is a little vague but i will try to explain. The small arteries to the heart (the coronary arteries) are what supply blood to the hearyt to keep it pumping. The big artery from the heart supplies the systemic circulation. If the small arteries get blocked, then you have a heart attack and may die. Any surgical proceedure may put enough stress on the heart to have a heart attack. ...Read more

Could you live "well" with only one artery feeding your heart?

Could you live "well" with only one artery feeding your heart?

It depends: This really depends on the clinical circumstances. The heart has three main arteries that supply the heart blood. I have had patients who have blocked off two of the arteries and thus were living off one artery which formed collarterals, or "natural bypasses" to other areas of the heart. With medications and monitoring in my opinion it is possible to have a reasonable quality of life. ...Read more
