10 days ago started Elmiron (pentosan) and Tamulosin for prostatitis . First week felt good. Almost free from pain! but 3 days ago it all came back. is it ok ?

I would suggest you see a urologist for accurate diagnosis and standard of care treatment options. ...Read more

My husbend has fever 101.3F and frequant urinating. Doc says prostatitis. Rectal exam ok. Xray is good but PSA is 38 does it necessarily mean cancer?

Prostatitis-related?: Together with available info, his PSA elevation could be most likely related with acute prostatitis. Hence, it is reasonable to give antibiotics - Bactrim-DS 1 tab po bid x 3-4 wks or Levaquin (levofloxacin) 250 or 500 mg po qd x 3-4 wks and repeat PSA + DRE (digital rectal exam) in 3 months to compare prior serial PSA so to decide if prostate ultrasound + biopsy is needed or not. ...Read more

Good day. I've had burning while urinating and red spots in genital area. STD tests~a month ago-all negative. Urologist thinks prostatitis. Thoughts?

CPPS?: Prostatitis or infections that cause it don't cause "red spots"; separate problems. At age 28, most apparent prostatitis is chronic pelvic pain syndrome. CPPS overlaps with prostatitis but there is no infection; urinary discomfort or pain are from pelvic muscle tension, often anxiety driven, e.g. after a regretted sexual exposure. OK to try cipro (ciprofloxacin) per urologist's advice, but it may not work. ...Read more
