Good Evening I Am A Diabetic How Long After I Eat Should I Test My Blood Sugar
I am diabetic, I take Metformin at supper time, is it better to take it before I eat dinner or after I eat dinner, with reference how my blood sugars will be 2 hours after I eat when I check my blood sugars. Thanks?
The blood sugar concentration or blood glucose level is the amount of glucose (sugar) present in the blood of a human or animal. The body naturally tightly regulates blood glucose levels as a part of metabolic homeostasis. Glucose is the primary source of energy for the body's cells, and blood lipids (in the form of fats and oils) are primarily ...Read more

Why is my fasting glucose always higher (90s) than my post-prandial glucose (70s)? I am not diabetic nor on and meds that affect blood sugar.
Don't worry: Your blood glucose results are in the normal range. To maintain good health, exercise about 30 minutes/day, 5 days/week, have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, nuts, legumes, lentils, beans, small amounts of lean meats, low fat milk products, limit saturated fats, no tobacco and no more than one alcoholic drink a day. ...Read more
I eat good full meals I am not a diabetic but I struggle with low blood sugar. What can cause that?
I am a type 1 diabetic. When my blood sugar is low, it feels like I could eat forever. Why does food taste so good when I have low blood sugar?
I'm not a diabetic and I thought I'm gonna test my blood sugars and they were 5.9 mmol, is that good?
Very tired midway through the day, and especially after I eat. Basic blood sugar test came back ok. Have anxiety, but this was never an issue. Ideas?
Join the club!: Lots of people feel fatigued by the mid-day (hence why some countries literally shut down for several hours for siestas!) also, many people feel sleepy after eating (ever hear of taking a nap after a big meal?). What you describe is not unusual, but if concerned and anxious please discuss evaluation with your doctor. ...Read more
What is making my vision blur? Its worse when I eat sugar or blood glucose goes below 5.0mmol but is sometimes blurred when glucose level is good. Idea
Fluctuating glucose: Patients with fluctuating blood sugar levels often have fluctuations in vision. It could be simply that, something like latent hyperopia and need for glasses, or something more serious. You need a good eye exam to diagnose. Diabetics need to be seen annually at the least. ...Read more
How long do I have to fast before bloodwork? I'm type 1 diabetic and sometimes my blood sugar goes low in the middle of the night and I have to eat. Is there anything I can eat to avoid having to wait all day to eat anything in order to pass this blood wo
U can't with a low: If you have a low blood sugar in the middle of the night, you have to treat it. That would put a kink in morning fasting labs. My concern would be to prevent the lows; you shouldn't have to feed your diabetes to get thru the night. The problem is to sort out why you're having overnight lows and prevent them. Please discuss with ur doc. Fasting is going 8-12 hours without food. ...Read more

More accurate: There are other criteria for diagnosis of diabetes that do not require fasting: random glucose, post meal glucose, hba1c that looks at prior 3 mos of glucose. The fasting glucose is the oldest and most established diagnostic tool. A glucose of >200 at any time of day is generally diagnostic of diabetes. ...Read more

Hi. Yes, at age 45 (your stated age) it is recommended you be tested for diabetes; sooner than 45 if you have risk factors. Type 2 diabetes can be present but go undiagnosed for years, during which time it is damaging various organ systems in the body. So, perhaps you should say you're not known to be diabetic! ;-)
Get tested...you'll either be relieved, or get going on managing it! Good luck! ...Read more

No: Hi. No, you don't have low blood sugar unless you're taking insulin. Popular "hypoglycemia" is a mythical self diagnosis with no medical/scientific validity. True endogenous hypoglycemia is a vanishingly rare condition caused by tumors or hyperplasia of the cells in the pancreas that make insulin...emphasis on vanishingly rare. So your symptoms are not related to your blood sugar ...Read more
Depends on sweetener: Some sugar free candies are calorie free but some are not. Part of it depends on the sweetener used. Sugar alcohols can still raise your sugar. And some sugar free foods have just as many calories as the "regular" version, so they may not raise your blood sugar as much, but "lots" will cause weight gain and eventual increase in blood sugar. "lots" of anything is bad. ...Read more

HbA1c of 6.9 is good number but doesn't provide complete picture by itself (where there any complications of diabetes, what other diseases are on board, how the trend has been during last year, etc) The best option is to discuss frequency of sugar monitoring at next appointment and adhere to it! ...Read more
