Glutamate metabolism dysregulation is associated with cancer. What comes first, glutamate metabolism dysregulation or cancer?

Glutamate metabolism dysregulation is associated with cancer. What comes first, glutamate metabolism dysregulation or cancer?

Not simple: Cancer is ultimately a genetic disease, that is cancer cells have mutations not found in normal cells. Some mutations are in genes affecting metabolic pathways, including glutamate metabolism, and the abnormal metabolism may contribute to the progression to invasive cancer. So your question is sort of a chicken and egg one; ultimately it is the mutation that is what starts a cancer. ...Read more

What kind(s) of specialist(s) would be able to diagnose & treat glutamate metabolism disorders and nitrogen metabolism disorders?

What kind(s) of specialist(s) would be able to diagnose & treat glutamate metabolism disorders and nitrogen metabolism disorders?

1-Step Metabolomics: Any physician can order the most broad-spectrum screen for metabolic disorders: "one-step metabolomics". Here is a link to a video demonstration of the technique. http://www.jove.com/video/2014/one-step-metabolomics-carbohydrates-organic-amino-acids-quantified. ...Read more

Can autoantibodies against glutamate receptors cause glutamate metabolism disorders?

Can autoantibodies against glutamate receptors cause glutamate metabolism disorders?

Yes. Great Question!: The Amino Acid glutamate plays a central role in nitrogen metabolism & participates in multiple biochemical pathways. Disease examples: autoantibodies to the glutamate receptor kill neurons via activation of the receptor ion channel. Anti-nmda receptor encephalitis is a treatment-responsive inflammatory encephalopathic autoimmune disease associated with anti-nmda receptor antibodies. ...Read more

What kinds of doctors treat metabolic disorders (glutamate metabolism, nitrogen metabolism, methylation disorders)?

Methylation: Methylation disorders (mthfr and comt) can affect as much as 25% of the general population. Integrative medicine doctors will generally treat, also functional medicine and a holistic medicine. ...Read more

Can autoantibodies against glutamine synthetase and/or glutamate dehydrogenase cause glutamate metabolism disorders?

Can autoantibodies against glutamine synthetase and/or glutamate dehydrogenase cause glutamate metabolism disorders?

Still searching: Glutamine synthase is part of the glutamine synthetase family. Ammonia incorporation in animals occurs through the actions of glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamine synthase. Glutamate plays the central role in mammalian nitrogen flow, serving as both a nitrogen donor and nitrogen acceptor. I am unble to find references in my search so far as to autoantibodies to these but see comment. ...Read more

Can a person be genetically predisposed to develop a disorder of glutamate metabolism later in life? How could you test for this?

Can a person be genetically predisposed to develop a disorder of glutamate metabolism later in life? How could you test for this?

Complete evaluation: Many genetic conditions may not express themselves early. See a specialist, perhaps a neurologist, psychiatrist or endocrinologist who will review your history medications and diet. ...Read more

If you have a glutamate metabolism disorder...& then you eat a food high in glutamic acid (meat, gluten, casein..Etc), what happens to you? Symptoms?

If you have a glutamate metabolism disorder...& then you eat a food high in glutamic acid (meat, gluten, casein..Etc), what happens to you? Symptoms?

A lot: Glutamate overall is an excitatory protein in the body. It stimulates the perception of taste and appetite. It also acts on the pancreas and liver. Our bodies need some but too much can cause a lot of different problems such as weight gain, diabetes, and neurotoxicity. In addition to avoiding high glutamate foods it is useful to consume extra carnitine (high in red meat) to counter the glutamate. ...Read more

Could a glutamate metabolism disorder either directly or indirectly cause my stool to constantly have strong ammonia smell for last few years?

Could a glutamate metabolism disorder either directly or indirectly cause my stool to constantly have strong ammonia smell for last few years?

More likely GI flora: You are in distress and high gad65 ab can cause brain effects. Environmental influences possible. Avoid tobacco, alcohol, processed foods, dairy, grains except quinoa, and sugar.Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and some wild caught fish. Check 25-oh vit d. Eat 6 equal meals a day followed by relaxation breathing for 5 minutes , and mild exercise for 10-15 minutes. Read kelly mcgonigal. ...Read more

Can high gad-65 autoantibodies cause glutamate metabolism disorder (gmd)? What tests confirm gmd? My plasma ammonia is normal & anti-gad ab's high

Can high gad-65 autoantibodies cause glutamate metabolism disorder (gmd)? What tests confirm gmd? My plasma ammonia is normal & anti-gad ab's high

Can cause diabetes.: It seems these autoabs can cause stiff man's syndrome, a neurological disorder with impaired motor function and muscle stiffness and spasm. There is also a great deal of glutamic acid decarboxylase in the pancreas and so these antibodies act here and produce diabetes mellitus in the patient. This is likely the metabolic disorder involved. So titers of this ab, glucose, and neural tests help. ...Read more

L-glutamic acid gives me severe dysesthesias. D-glutamic acid is worse. Could I have glutamate metabolism disorder or glutamate receptor antibodies?

L-glutamic acid gives me severe dysesthesias. D-glutamic acid is worse. Could I have glutamate metabolism disorder or glutamate receptor antibodies?

Possibly but...: Good question without an easy answer. Glutamate is an "excitotoxin" that is not healthy for anyone but some people are more sensitive to it than others. There are a variety of uncommon glutamate metabolism disorders but you do not need to have one of these to be adversely affected by glutamate. Dysesthesias are not a known symptom of antibodies to glutamate receptors. See my comments:. ...Read more

Is there a blood test for glutamine synthetase or glutamate dehydrogenase? Would the tests help diagnose glutamate &/or nitrogen metabolism disorder?

Is there a blood test for glutamine synthetase or glutamate dehydrogenase? Would the tests help diagnose glutamate &/or nitrogen metabolism disorder?

You're worried and: nervous & anxious about your health, & brains & spinal cords & glutamate are the latest fad. So you're very anxious to get tested for SOMETHING. You need to stay grounded. The CNS is a protected zone. It's insulated from the rest of the body by the blood-brain barrier. CNS glutamate metabolism stays in the CNS, like Vegas. Please be reassured that this is NOT something you need to worry about. ...Read more

What is glutamate rebound?

What is glutamate rebound?

Glutamate "rebound": As the name implies, glutamate receptors blocked during ingestion of alcohol (or ketamine) are reactivated ("rebound") after the effects of both are diminished, and high levels of glutamate are then felt with the perceptions of post alcohol withdrawal ("hangover") similar to when one eats foods containing high mono sodium glutamate, a preservative contained in many foods. ...Read more

How to raise your metabolism?

Speed metabolism.: Weight training builds lean muscle which is metabolically active around the clock, day and night. While some studies suggest that cardiovascular exercise may stimulate the metabolism for as much as 48 hours after the exercise, it may be much less time. Both are best in combination. As well, eating a small healthy meal of lean protein and complex carbs every 2-3 hours speeds the metabolism. ...Read more
