Pls explain difference between Metformin 500mg vs Metformin SR 500mg? Is Metformin SR 500mg equal to Metformin 500mg x 2 tablets?
Friend on kombiglyze (5 mg sexaglyptin,1000 mg metformin)& blisto (4 mg glimpride ,1000 mg metformin)once daily.Fasting comes 110 & PP 200.Help.
Diabetes non cot: Your friend should address this issue. How old she is, 43??, for how long has been managed with this medications ? and is an endocrinologist doing the management? For me is difficult to manage her. She requires a Diabetologist, to go over the medications, have a full diabetic panel, She probably will require to start insulin, and very close follow up. ...Read more
No: Metformin is not known to be toxic to the kidneys. The concern may be when a patient has naturally kidney function and they take metformin. That person may then be at (rare, but still documented) risk of a condition called lactic acidosis - a potentially dangerous, body-wide build-up of lactic acid that interferes with the delivery with oxygen. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Metformin tablets glycomet 250 mg is not effective. Can i take glycomet sr 0.5 or glycomet CP 0.5 ?.
Yes but . . . : How do you know your diabetes medication isn't working? Do you check your sugars w/glucometer? What/when was most recent a1c? How many glycomet are you taking? Try to focus on nutrition first rather than adding more drugs. Max dose of metformin is 2, 550mg/d. Talk to your doc about your options. And be sure your kidneys are ok. ...Read more
Can be: Yes. All meds are safe if used properly and with frequent monitoring by your doctor. Fasting sugar values 90-110; pp values high 200-240. Metformin sr 1g at night, metphormin 500mg + glimpride in morning. Voglibose not effective. Help?
Other medication: You have mostly post prandial hyperglycemia. Metformin and glimeperide work mostly for fasting sugars, the voglibose can help with pp sugars, but it is a weak medication. One should consider being on either a glp-1 agonist (exenatide, liraglutide) or a dpp-4 inhibitor (sitagliptin, saxagliptin, linagliptin, alogliptin) as these are more effective for pp hyperglycemia. ...Read more

Probably Not: Especially for someone who is young. Neurontin (gabapentin) doesn't even get metabolized by the liver. That being said, it makes sense to monitor you liver w/regular lab-work & to ask yourself if exercise, nutrition, & meditation can help your symptoms & reduce your pill burden. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Yes: there are no contraindications with any medication, as far as I know. Magnesium is found in many foods, and magnesium deficiency has become more common, particularly with use of drugs like omeprazole (Prilosec), esomeprazole (Nexium) and similar drugs which markedly reduce stomach acid and impede magnesium absorption. ...Read more

Depends.: That would depend on what the wellbutrin (bupropion) sr is prescribed to treat. Wellbutrin (bupropion) sustained release would generally be used to treat depression, however it is also used for smoking cessation (zyban) and off label for adhd and substance use disorders. We also add it to other antidepressants to try and reverse sexual dysfunction. 100 mgs daily would be the lowest dose of that form of the medication. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not necessarily: As a starting dose that is definetely a high dose, but if you have been on it for while it is a moderate dose. Tolerance may occur which means that after a while the same dose is no longer effective. Doses more than 40-60 mg are unlikely to have increased benefit and something else should be considered. Talk to prescribing coctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
