What is glomerulonephritis?

What is glomerulonephritis?

Group of illnesses: Glomeruli are the little filters in the kidneys and -itis means inflammation. Since bacteria have nothing to grow on in the delicate little filters, the glomerulonephritis family results from immune injury. They range from trivial non-diseases to devastating processes that will ruin a kidney in a few days. Good luck.

Does anyone know of any support groups on membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis?

Does anyone know of any support groups on membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis?

Kidney group: Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis usually produces serious, slowly-progressive kidney disease in children. There are support groups for sick children and for kidney disease in general. Do it -- you should be able to help many people.

What causes glomerulonephritis? And what will it lead to?

Many types: There are many types of glomerulonephritis, caused by many different things, from strep infection to autoimmune or chronic diseases. The outcomes & prognoses vary depending on the type and severity of GN.

What is glomerulonephritis and how we treat it and does it cause a micro hematuria in the urine? How to treat inflammation of the kidneys?

Glomerulonephritis: Is inflammation of the glomruli, the functional building blocks of your kidneys! It can be due to autoimmune diseases, cellular infiltration, or an infectious process, presents as a combination of these signs and symptoms:Abnormal kidney function tests (that is elevated Creatinine), abnormal urine test (presence of blood, and/or protein in urine), hypertension, and leg swelling.Therapy depends on cause

Explain the general difference between acute glomerulonephritis and chronic glomerulonephritis. How is each treated?

Diagnosis: Acute glomerulonephritis means onset of kidney inflammation in days, so cause should be identified, treated, to recover renal function. Chronic means the problem existed for few weeks - months, still cause should be diagnosed, treated. Most often, both requires renal biopsy.

Hello doctor, what is the best treatment for glomerulonephritis, patient age is 28 years. Kindly suggest giving the long life expectancy.

Hello doctor, what is the best treatment for glomerulonephritis, patient age is 28 years. Kindly suggest giving the long life expectancy.

Glomerulonephritis: You need to find out what type of glomerulonephritis (gn) you are taking about. Many people can find out the type of gn they have by blood test results. To arrive at a diagnosis and a prognosis, a person with gn will need to have a kidney biopsy which will be sent off to a pathologist who will diagnose the type of gn. Once, the diagnosis is in, more can be said of your patient with gn.

Can glomerulonephritis be cured? And how? Help please.

Can glomerulonephritis be cured? And how? Help please.

Yes: Glomerulonephritis is an inflammation of the kidney functioning units, or glomeruli. There are many different types of this disease and the treatment depends on the classification of the type, amount of fibrosis (or scar tissue) and levels of kidney function and protein levels. Treatment may vary as well, but will be driven by the type of glomerulonephritis that you have.

I've been diagnosed with mild chronic Glomerulonephritis. What can I do to prevent it from developing to acute stage?

Avoid some medicatio: If you have chronic kindney disease you can prevent worsening of Kinsey function by avoiding medications which worsen kidney function. You should avoid medications such as Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and Naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn). When in doubt ask your doctor or pharmacist. Always read the ingredient labels of multisymptom medications before taking them.

Does chronic glomerulonephritis increase the risk of facial swelling following lower face lift surgery?

Facelift Swelling: Any medical condition causing swelling can increase edema following a facelift. Your pmd should be part of the team looking after you making sure you are in optimal condition and a good candidate for plastic surgery.

What is glomerulonephritis?

Inflammation: Glomerulus is the functioning unit of the kidney. Blood passes through the glomerulus and water with electrolytes /some protein is filtered through the glomerulus into the kidney tubules where it undergoes various processes, eventually forming the final product- urine. "itis" means inflammation.Glomerulonephritis means- inflammation of the glomerulus - many causes - infection, autoimmune, cancer.

Glomerulonephritis, can you explain this?

Glomerulonephritis: It means inflammation (due to cellular infiltration, autoimmune diseases, or infectious causes) in the glomeruli (which are smart tiny building blocks of your kidneys-where all the clearance of toxins from your blood happen!) it is diagnosed by kidney biopsy and many urine and blood tests. Symptoms and signs can be swelling of legs/face, blood and/or protein in urine, hypertension, abnl kidney fx

What is glomerulonephritis and is it painful?

What is glomerulonephritis and is it painful?

See below: Glomeruli are filtering units in the kidney- they are microscopic and each kidney has more than a million of these. Inflammation of these filtering units cause blood and protein in urine, BP elecvation, fluid retention, retention of wastes like bun, creatinine, elevation of potassium, and acid levels in blood. Usually painless.

Glomerulonephritis. How rare is it in young adults?

Glomerulonephritis. How rare is it in young adults?

Rare, but happens: Young adults can get focal segmental disease that causes high blood pressure and proteing loss. Other forms of gn also occur. The diagnosis depends on urinalysis and kidney biopsy. Many are treatable but not all depending on type. Obesity can cause gn. Also, drug abuse is more common in younger adults and can cause gn.

What's glomerulonephritis of the kidney?

Inflammation kidney: This is an inflammation in the kidney usually caused by some type of an immune response. This topic is very complex and there are many conditions that can cause this, such as lupus, other types of vasculitis, after certain bacterial infections, and other causes (some of which not even the researchers in medicine fully understand). If diagnosed it is important to see kidney specialist.

What usually precedes acute glomerulonephritis?

Acute GN: Often acute glomerulonephritis happens after strep infection (skin or throat) i.e. Post strep gn, or an upper respiratory infection (iga nephropathy). Otherwise, there is not necessarily any preceding event.
