It is due to or stress causing Anxiety, and may be associated with Acid Reflux from the stomach. whistling with exhalation is likely is due to mucus in Bronchi. Globus etc: Hi MelaniH~ you have REFLUX which is the central issue, because GE reflux while recumbent can cause gastric fluid to enter the esophagus and spill into the lungs. This will give you irritation in the esophagus and cause globus sensation and can cause irritable airways and lower respiratory obstruction witth asthma symptoms. See your doc. GERD vs. anxiety: Globus or a lump in the throat feeling is cause by muscle tightness at the entrance to the esophagus. It can be due to LPR ( high gastric reflux of acid) or anxiety. Could be.: Globus sensation is usually not felt on only one side of the neck. As long as you are able to swallow and breathe easily, then you can see if this goes away on its own. If it worsens, or if it persists longer than a day or two, then I would see your doctor. You might consider taking a trial of antacids, since globus sensation can be worsened by gastroesophageal reflux. Good luck. ...Read more
