What does BENIGN ENDOMETRIUM W/ ATROPHIC CHANGES & FEATURES OF GLANDULAR & STROMAL BREAKDOWN mean? NEG FOR HYPHYPERPLASIA, ATYPIA, OR MALIGNANCY.
Pathology 101: An endometrial biopsy is usually done to look for cancer, and the pathologist here saw no signs of cancer (malignancy/atypia) in the sample obtained. The other findings can be seen with or close to menopause (natural or induced by surgery or medications), and can be normal in many situations, but context (why the test was done) is important to be able to interpret this result uniquely for you. ...Read more
I have been diagnosed Glandular Hyperplasia with Focal Atypia and my doc suggests for Hysterectomy immediately what you say?
Maybe not always: Uterine lining hyperplasia with atypia has a small chance of turning into uterus lining cancer, or actually hiding a small cancer already. So, yes, a hysterectomy is one option, but for some people that want to avoid hysterectomy, it is also ok to just get a D and C with hysteroscopy (look inside). that way all the lining gets removed and tested. You will need to followup if that comes back ok. ...Read more

a few glandular cells with nuclear atypia. Total hysterectomy was done. Suspects a cervical fibroid? Awaiting pathology report? Could it be cancer?
Don't take it: It is ground up cow/pig thyroid tissue. Does it contain thyroid hormone? Yes. How much? Depends on what the cows/pigs were up to. Is it regulated for purity/composition? Hard to know (it is not regulated like a drug). People who take this stuff often become hyperthyroid without realizing it. Take prescription levothyroxine under a doctor's care. ...Read more
Benign growth: It is an increase of number of cells/ benign growth that originates from the glands-with mild abnormality of the cells (atypia). Atypia can be caused by other things like irritations /infection/inflammation- not just premalignancy. Discuss further with your doctor. ...Read more
What does it mean if you have very rare benign minute fragments of endocervical glandular tissue?
Endocervical/tissue: A "pap smear" may contain some tissue from the canal leading to the womb (endocervical canal) which grows out over the surface of the cervix and is seen on the pap smear. With a "D&C" some fragments of endocervial glandular tissue will be seen on pathologic diagnostic microscopic exam. This tissue was benign, therefore nothing to worry about. ...Read more

Cervical cancer: Cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, or cervical dysplasia and cervical interstitial neoplasia, is a premalignant transformation and abnormal growth (dysplasia) of squamous cells on the surface of the cervix. The nuclear glandular smear may help to differentiate between dysplasia and true adenocarcinomatous changes, but these results values have been disputed. ...Read more

It depends what kind: Of atypia you are referring to. Is this a breast biopsy? Broadly speaking, atypical cells have some of the histologic features of cancer but not enough to be cancer. Atypia is usually considered to be an indicator of an increased risk of cancer, some consider atypia to be a precursor to cancer. If atypia is found on a needle biopsy, a percentage of those get upgraded to carcinoma on excision ...Read more
Atypical Nevus: An atypical melanocytic nevus (mole) is graded with mild, focally severe or severe atypia. Another feature of possibly dysplatic (pre-malignant) moles is the finding of architectural disorder. Junctional means nevus cells were seen at the base of the epidermis/superficial dermis (a common mole type). Mild atypia moles should be monitored for regrowth and re-excision with margins, if indicated. ...Read more
