I am told my Glomerular filtration Rate is 57.6. Does this indicate Kidney disease? Creatinine is 1.0 BUN is 20 total Protein is 7.0 I am 55 w/f

I am told my Glomerular filtration Rate is 57.6. Does this indicate Kidney disease? Creatinine is 1.0 BUN is 20 total Protein is 7.0 I am 55 w/f

GFR: Your Estimated filtration rate is borderline. This is not a problem itself. The important concern is whether disease exists that might be progressive. Serum creatinine of 1.0 is "normal". So is serum creatinine 1.1. However, creatinine relates to muscle mass. If you are small muscled as a. 55 yo woman, then creatinine of 1.1 or 1.0 may indicate some minor impairment in its excretion. ...Read more

Kidney (Definition)

The kidneys are paired organs that lie on either side of the vertebral column. Part of their critical functions include the excretion of urine and removal of nitrogenous wastes products from the blood. They regulate acid-base, electrolyte, fluid balance and blood pressure. Through hormonal signals, the kidneys control the ...Read more

Low c.3c mean I am developing glomernephritis? All kidney function tests normal GFR was 79

Low c.3c mean I am developing glomernephritis? All kidney function tests normal GFR was 79

Low GFR: A GFR of 79 is lower than the lower limit of normal, 90 and may reflect early renal disease. Low c3 suggests immune complex formation. Please consult your doctor for repeat testing with proper hydration, test for urine albumin, hepatitis antibodies and auto-immune markers. ...Read more

I had a serious of blood tests done, kidney function liver thyroids it came back saying my gfr was high on borderline please explain thank you?

Not a problem: GFR is glomerular filtration rate. Having it be slightly high or on the high end of normal is not a problem. If it is low then that means that your kidneys are not functioning normally and that is a problem. ...Read more

Can your GFR level also mean your percentage of kidney function?

Can your GFR level also mean your percentage of kidney function?

Close: They are not the same, but close. Since a normal gfr-glomerular filtration rate-is about 100ml/minute, the % term is often used. So a GFR of 30 cc/min is about 30% of normal kidney function. As one ages, the GFR naturally decreases, so it becomes less accurate. But for common use they are about the same. ...Read more

What do you suggest if my kidney function went from a GFR reading of 33 to 38?

What do you suggest if my kidney function went from a GFR reading of 33 to 38?

Improvement.: On the surface, this would suggest that your kidney function has improved. That being said, that GFR is still quite low and suggests some real kidney issue. I hope you're being followed by a kidney doctor, as you need one. ...Read more

My kidney function went from a GFR reading of 33 to 38. What does this indicate?

My kidney function went from a GFR reading of 33 to 38. What does this indicate?

Nothing really: I'm going to assume that you are being followed for moderate kidney failure by a physician who's good at this sort of thing and that you have a diagnosis. The GFR that's routinely obtained from ordinary bloodwork is a very crude estimate in the first place and fluctuates with your hydration, status of your illness, and much else. Find out your actual diagnosis & outlook & stay proactive. ...Read more

My kidney function shows a low estimated GFR level. What should I do?

Low GFR level: You should ask your doctor to order a 24 hour urine for creatinine clearance and have blood taken when you drop off the urine at the lab. That is the way you will get an actual rather than an estimated gfr. ...Read more

GFR is 33 and creatinine is 145. I was wondering what is the percentage of kidney function?

Remember: That the GFR is basically an estimation of a degree of your kidney function based on your creatinine measurement, age, gender and race. It may not be accurate if your body type(shape) is extreme or you have significantly more or less muscle mass than "normal". Normal is around 100 by GFR. ...Read more
