Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
Throat tickle: Throat tickling may be from mucus drainage from the nose or sinuses as it relates to allergies or sinus infection. It may also be related to mild acid reflux without the typical "heart burn." the key to resolution of symptoms is determining the trigger so the right treatment is used. An allergist or ENT can be helpful in sorting this out.
Treatments....: Sometimes there is residual bronchospasm once a cold resolves. This can be treated with bronchodilator and steroid inhalers until the bronchospasm and airway inflammation is completely gone. You may also have residual post-nasal drip which can be treated with nasal sprays. So, see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.See 2 more doctor answers

Aspiration: Aspiration occurs when a foreign substance gains entrance through the larynx to the trachea and/or lungs. Aspiration typically occurs while eating or drinking. Other swallowing issues or vocal issues that occur with aspiration should be evaluated by a physician.
Identify trigger: Coughing may be related to itching of the throat. While an antihistamine may decrease the itching, the best long term approach would be to see an allergist to perform testing to identify the trigger.

Mucinex, (guaifenesin) MD: Thick phlegm can be thinned out with something like a mucinex, (guaifenesin) which can be found at most drug stores. However, if this is a chronic problem, you should visit an md to determine what the root cause of the phlegm is: reflux, allergies, post-nasal drip, or lung issues. After I eat I always have this crackling in my chest. I hear it when I breathe To get rid of it I have to cough or clear my throat of clear mucus.
Chest crackling: Eating may cause a reflexive asthma like reaction causing the crackling sound and cough instead of wheezing. It may be more frequent with certain foods. Another possibility is gastroesophageal reflux with some aspiration into your trachea. I recommend that you consult a gastroenterologist for evaluation and advice. A swallowing study and barium swallow examination may be advised
