Hi, What can I do to overcome my fear of swallowing medicines...I really donno how I developed this fear. What to do..
Symptoms? Crush?: I answer this not only as a physician but as a patient as well. Do you have any symptoms when you do swallow medications? Any signs of choking or something in your chest/uneasy feeling? If not, then crushing them is an option but that does minimize the effectiveness of the medicine. Start small: Begin practicing with small pieces of soft food or gummi type candy - start with pieces smaller than the actual pill size (if nothing else it will just melt in your mouth!). Take with swallows of water like one might with a pill. When successful increase the size of the next practice piece, and so on until you reach the size of your pill.
