Can I give my 15 month old peptobismol? She keeps throwing up with no signs of fever or illness. We have checked food allergies, ans GERD (taking zantac (ranitidine) 2x daily). I cannot figure out what's wrong :- (

I wouldn't: Pepto has salycilates which we don't give tom kids under 16 because of an association with liver failure/death (Reye syndrome).Wet burps that do not result in problems with hydration often decrease with age as the reflux improves. If the kid is growing well. I would leave it alone. ...Read more

Taking 40mg prescription Prilosec daily and have breakthrough GERD which required zantac (ranitidine). Do I need a new ppi?

Maybe...: If you are following strict dietary and lifestyle modifications routinely recommended to patients with gerd and are compliant with taking your Nexium (esomeprazole) it may be time to either try a different ppi or double the dose of nexium (esomeprazole). 30 - 40% of patients with gerd will require a double dose of ppi for control of symptoms. Baking soda: If cost is an issue, and your are already taking 300mg of generic Zantac (ranitidine) a day, then you could occasionally try taking a level teaspoon of baking soda in about two ounces of water for further relief. This is a home remedy that has worked well of decades, but is not promoted in standard medical practice. That said you should be evaluated asap by a gastroenterologist to determine the cause of sx. ...Read more

Is it recommended to take Prilosec in the morning and Zantac (ranitidine) at night for complete acid relief of GERD?

Is it recommended to take Prilosec in the morning and Zantac (ranitidine) at night for complete acid relief of GERD?

See your doctor.: If you are initially treating presumed acid reflux, Prilosec 20 mg once each morning about 20 minutes before eating any food is a good start. If it does not completely relieve your symptoms after two weeks, however, or if they recur after stopping the Prilosec, then I would seek out treatment long term through your family doctor. Anti-reflux measures are important too. Good luck. ...Read more

On 40mg pantoprazole and 150mg Zantac. Doc has me on this for 3 months for gerd. Is it normal to be on this long. Tired of taking pills?

Chronic GERD: It is not unusual for patients to require long term medicine to get GERD symptoms under control and then to maintain that remission of symptoms. Many patients are not able to go off medicines completely. The goal would then be to get down to the least amount of medicines which controls you symptoms well. Anti-reflux precautions help. Good luck. ...Read more

If you had to choose between 1 prevacid or 2-4 Zantac (ranitidine) to manage GERD (morning nausea and nausea between meals) for life which would you choose?

GERD: Neither is good for life, chronic acid suppression, especially by ppis like prevacid, (lansoprazole) can create more problems down the line in the stomach.
