I have lost me sense of taste on Prilosec have lump in throat feeling and still it is not helping much. Is this GERD or something else?

Globus & GERD: A lump in the back of the throat may be a manifestation of gerd. If you are having persistent symptoms despite maximal treatment with a proton pump inhibitor, you may wish to seek medical assistance. If you are also having typical reflux symptoms, you should see a GI doctor. If your only symptoms is the lump in your throat, you should seen an ENT physician first. Globus sensation?: Do you experience the feeling of a ball or lump in the back of your throat that you have to swallow past? If so, this is "globus." Alternatively, you may have laryngo-esophaeal reflux without heartburn. Sometimes, the actual swallowing mechanism may be impaired due to "spasms, " dysmotility, or inflammation. A gastroenterologist or ear-nose-throat specialist is a good starting point for evaluation ...Read more

Lump in throat, unintentional weight loss, heartburn is it GERD or cancer?

Lump in throat, unintentional weight loss, heartburn is it GERD or cancer?

Consider endoscopy: Upper GI endoscopy is usually ordered with these symptoms to determine exactly what is going on. At your age reflux may be the cause, however, with the lump in the throat symptoms, I would also consider eosinophilic esophagitis as a possibility. Endoscopy with biopsy will allow them to put your mind at ease to rule out cancer, look for reflux changes, and check for precancerous barrett's change. ...Read more

Healthy, 41y.o. with lower chest pain and lump-in-throat, discomfort swallowing, day after eating fast-hot temp meal. No gastro. Probs. Just heartburn?

30y/o female. History of GERD many yrs and increasing esophageal tenderness. Suddenly have dysphagia lump in throat feeling for over a week. Cancer?

Probably not cancer: Cancer is possible but is very unlikely at your young age of 30. It is more likely that you have developed esophageal irritation and possible a stricture or narrowing of the distal esophagus. You need to see a gastroenterologist or surgeon for an endoscopy to evaluate the dysphagia. You should be on an acid blocker if you are not on one already. Good luck! ...Read more

Dr ordered soft tissue neck u/s to investigate lump in throat sensation. Tech acted like she never heard of this reason. Was that a logical next step?

Globus: Your doctor knows more than the ultrasound tech. Disregard her lack of knowledge. Most likely, your doctor wanted to evaluate your thyroid for enlargement or nodules. I have GERD for many years and I notice a very very small lump inside of my throat a year ago, now it got bigger and I notice another one. Is it posi?

Check it out: I am not sure if your lump is related to gerd. It may or may not. I recommend it be checked, though. Go to your primary care physician to begin with and he may request ENT or gastroenterology consult. You can take ranitidine or Famotidine or Omeprazole or Lansoprazole over-the-counter for your reflux symptoms.
