Probably not cancer: Cancer is possible but is very unlikely at your young age of 30. It is more likely that you have developed esophageal irritation and possible a stricture or narrowing of the distal esophagus. Globus: Your doctor knows more than the ultrasound tech. Disregard her lack of knowledge. Most likely, your doctor wanted to evaluate your thyroid for enlargement or nodules. That's perfectly reasonable. You should be tried on anti-reflux meds and possibly referred to ENT for laryngopharyngoscopy to eval for any mass or edema. ...Read more

Yes: A cough is likely a part of an upper respiratory tract infection, probably viral in nature. If the lump is inside your throat this could also be a strep tonsil infection. I would first recommend rest, plenty of fluids and you can also try gargling with salt water. If you get worse or not much better in a few days, I would seek medical advice. Throat lump: It can be associated with acid reflux and I see that you have heartburn and you smoke, which does not help it. The lump may also be from post nasal drip if you have nasal allergies. I will bet on acid reflux, you need to change your diet and stop smoking and maybe take some otc antacids. ...Read more
