I feel like there's always food in my throat. I was diagnosed to have GERD 5 years ago. Could this be that I have GERD again? Thanks.

Yes: The feeling of food in the throat is a not uncommon symptom of GERD. Since GERD tends to be a long-term illness, it is possible that you may need to be back on medication for it. If you are having actual sticking of your food as you try to swallow it, you may need an endoscopy to look at and perhaps dilate your esophagus, in addition. You should see your doctor for further advice. Good luck. ...Read more

Food is coming back up my throat. Is this gerd? What medication would be advised. Ppi's or h2 inhibitors?

Food is coming back up my throat. Is this gerd? What medication would be advised. Ppi's or h2 inhibitors?

It's regurgitation: When your gastroesophageal flap valve is weak it allows gastric contents to reflux back up the esophagus. Most people just experience heartburn with this. When it's a severely failing valve then actual food comes up like you are experiencing. Anti-reflux surgery is 95% effective at curing typical reflux symptoms and regurgitation. See a surgeon experienced in minimally invasive reflux surgery. ...Read more

After fried food throat hurts feels like closing but i can still drink and breathe is this gerd? It's an awful feeling

Acid reflux: One potential cause is acid reflux which may be due to gerd but you should be seen by a GI doctor and have this checked. You may have helicobacter infection. The other consideration is that you are allergic to something in the food you are eating and that could be a life-threatening situation if not discovered soon. You really should see a doctor and be evaluated. Good luck. ...Read more

Sometimes i feel food has trouble traversing my throat and mid esophogous. I have had to force myself to vomit to dislodge. I have gerd. Diagnosis?

Motity disorder: You may have an esophageal motility disorder, where your esophagus doesn't work in a coordinated fashion to push the food down. This is typically an intermittent problem, and some of these disorders may be associated with gerd. A test with a tube in the nose can help make the diagnosis. Treatment options are limited, but fixing the gerd with and endoscopic or surgical procedure might help. ...Read more

I suffer from gerd, i also have a lump sensation in my throat and cannot swallow food very well, will this lump feeling go away ?

Only with treatment: Gerd can produce high reflex and cause a lump feeling in your throat. Proper treatment with what are called hydrogen ion blockers (prilosec, nexium) can inhibit acid production and improve your symptoms. See your physician for this treatment. The symptom is classical for high reflux, now commonly called lpr or laryngeal-pharyngeal reflux. ...Read more

Everytime i eat i feel the food stuck in my throat. Specially when i eat a lot.. and i feel tighteness in my neck.. i burp a lot also is it gerd?

Possible: Your symptoms certainly sound like they could be related to some increased acid/hyper-secretory condition, such as GERD. Try eating smaller meals, avoiding classic GERD trigger foods and an OTC acid blocking medication, then see the Dr. Best wishes. ...Read more

Can be fixed: First, objective testing to document gerd (ph test) and correlate symtoms, along with endoscopy, upper GI contrast study and manometry should be done. If appropriate, stertta procedure done endoscopically or surgical procedure can be highly effective, but aren't perfect. See a general or thoracic surgeon with experience in antireflux procedures for a consultation to find out more. ...Read more

Do I have gerd? I have a sore throat, i feel like I have more syliva and i feel sometimes like there's food in my throat. I get hungry and no vomit

This might be GERD: The feelings you are having are possible signs of gerd, albeit some are not the "cardinal" typical signs (i.e. Heartburn, regurgitation). One way of testing is to take a medication like Prilosec otc for a full 3 months to see if it has any impact on your symptoms. An alternative is to go to a GI md and get testing. ...Read more

Yes: To put in bluntly, you are a prime candidate to get throat cancer. A constant irritation to your throat from stomach acid combined with smoking can transform that irritated tissue into cancer cells. The answer is quite simple: stop smoking, change to a healthy lifestyle, exercise, lose weight if you are overweight, see your doctor regularly. ...Read more
