Genital Warts (Definition)

Genital warts are warts with a raised, irregular, flesh colored appearance and can be found anywhere throughout the genital area. The medical term for them is condylomata accuminata and they are caused by certain subtypes of the human papilloma virus (HPV). They are mildly contagious by direct genital contact but are NOT a risk for cervical cancer (which is caused by other subtypes of HPV). There are multiple treatments available and there is also ...Read more

Noticed some genital warts near anus opening. Also cold sore on lip. Any OTC medication I can apply?

Noticed some genital warts near anus opening. Also cold sore on lip. Any OTC medication I can apply?

HSV no, warts maybe: No OTC medications will have any significant benefit against an oral herpes outbreak (cold sore). For warts, there are OTC treatments, such as "Compound W" in the US; I have no idea about what is availalbe in Kenya. But you shouldn't self treat anal warts without professional care. Your diagnosis may be wrong; and in the anal area, significant irritation and ulceration can result. ...Read more

Yes: The virus you mentioned can affect the skin anywhere in the body. Can get genital warts from rubbing penis through vaginal lips? I didn't have intercourse.

Can get genital warts from rubbing penis through vaginal lips? I didn't have intercourse.

HPV: Absolutely. This virus is easily transmissible by any direct skin to skin or skin to mucous membrane contact. But if you are having unprotected sex (and this is a form of that, one need not have penetration), that is not the only std you have to worry about. Hiv and syphilis and other serious pathogens can be transmitted in this manner. Be careful. It is dangerous out there. Get yourself tested. ...Read more

I have a skin color growth on the outer lip of my vagina. My doctor said it was folliculitis but I am worried it maybe genital warts.

Hmmm, hard to say: Folliculitis usually looks very different from a genital wart. If the growth is more 'cauliflower-like', wth irregular skin surface, or if it doesn't go away with application of compresses or even antibiotics, then another diagnosis should be considered. A biopsy may be needed to determine definitely. ...Read more

I'm talking to a guy and he recently told me he had HPV and genital warts he has a wart on his lip if I'm not having sex with him can I catch warts?

Real life: Everybody has a few strains of HPV. Some cause common warts. Some cause genital warts. Some cause genital cancers. The good news is that surveillance keeps precancers manageable and benign warts are easily removed. There are other diseases that are hard to treat. Your friend would do well to put on his brave face and get those problem warts lasered off like a he-man. Best wishes. ...Read more

What happens if I just discovered small genital warts I know its a concern but can I get rid of them a.s.a.p?

What happens if I just discovered small genital warts I know its a concern but can I get rid of them a.s.a.p?

See a doctor: See a doctor or clinic for professional diagnosis and treatment advice. Over the counter chemicals and various folk remedies have not been studied scientifically and it isn't known how well they work, if at all. Some apparent warts actually are other skin conditions. Self treatment may change the appearince of skin bumps, without curing warts but making it harder to accurately diagnose. ...Read more
