No: Herpes & HIV are two different viral infections. Passing one does not mean you will pass the other. However, there is definitely a real possibility of passing both. To reduce the risk, the HIV + person should be on anti-retrovirals & protease inhibitors. The person should also always watch for herpes lesions & be on treatment if any occur. I would consider : Checking to see if u have antibodies, if so you have already been exposed. Otherwise he can decrease the amount of virus he is shedding by using valacyclovir 500 mg or 1 gm per day, condom use also recommended.
