HIV DNA by PCR: When hospital workers are stuck with needles contaminated by HIV positive patients, they get a blood test called HIV dna by pcr which can tell if you have been infected within the last week. Antibody tests take up to 6 months to turn positive after HIV exposure. The HIV dna by pcr test is available at stdtestexpress. Com. ...Read more

Hiv (Definition)

Hiv infection is caused by a retrovirus....This retrovirus binds to CD4 cells (for the most part). You may detect the virus by several different methods. An elisa test (enzyme linked immunosorbent assay). You may also detect it by doing a test referred to as a western blot (a gel protein electrophoresis). Thirdly by pcr (polymerase chain reaction) which ...Read more

Hiv: Transmission under those circumstances are low but you should be more careful! Protect yourself from this deadly, incurable disease. Get tested again in a month at an HIV clinic where they provide the viral testing instead of the antibody (traditional) testing ...Read more

I took a 5th gen Ag/Ab HIV test 39 days post possible exposure. Result was non-reactive. Am I ok?

Conclusive HIV test: "Fifth generation" for an HIV test is marketing hype -- the manufacturer calls their new test 5th gen, but it's still bacially the same as all other 4th generation tests. Results of 4th gen HIV tests are usually conclusive after 4 weeks and always by 6 weeks (42 days). But 39 days is close enough; for sure you didn't catch HIV. ...Read more

4th gen hiv test negative. 9 hiv tests total up to 6 months. Do I need more tests or I am done? I am still worried

Stop testing!: The 4th generation HIV tests are conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after the last possible exposure to the virus. All tests you had after that were unnecessary. For sure you don't have HIV. ...Read more

After how many weeks of Exposure would the 4th gen HIV test be more accurate than a NAAT or RNA test?

It depends...: Unless the exposure was especially high risk, e.g. unprotected non-oral sex with a KNOWN infected person, NAAT testing should not be done at all. The 4th gen blood tests usually are positive at 2-3 weeks and always by 4 weeks. That's probably what you need. If the risk may have been genuinely high (e.g. unprotected anal with another guy), don't test online; see doc or clinic in person. ...Read more

What is 4th Gen HIV test? Is this the same with the HIV PCR?

Both are good: The fourth generation tests assay both for an antibody and an antigen and will pick the infection up almost always by 30 days, actually less. PCR is gold standard and quantitates the amount of the virus to monitor therapy. ...Read more

5th gen HIV test negative at 8.7 weeks. Why retest at 12 when CDC considers 4th ge tests conclusive after 43 days?

If positive: It may be conclusive if positive. Negative does not rule out. Do check at 12 weeks and to be sure get a HIV nucleic acid test at 6 months after exposure.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. ...Read more

Can I forget about HIV based on my 4th Gen HIV test (hiv1/2 and antigen) negative at 86 days after unfortunate incident? Learnt my lesson, thanks

I don't think so: The 4th generation HIV tests dentify acute infection through their ability to detect HIV-1 p24 antigens. However, I do not believe improved detection of early infection necessarily eliminates the chances that it may take someone longer than 3 months to test positive. 97% of infected individuals will test positive at 3 months, but to make sure you are not in the 3%, a test a 6 months is advised ...Read more

Risk in 29 june.20days went for 4th gen duo hiv test. (Neg).I got a brief 10s bj and protect sex. Got a abrasion near shaft. Worry me, test accurate?

Likely: In six months, get a HIV nucleic acid test, if that is negative, you would not have HIV.

1. Can hiv take more than 6 month to b detected in current tests available (4th gen, pcr) in market 2. How reliable are CAP approved HIV test in Mexico?

Completely reliable: With the modern, standard HIV tests, it is never necessary to test later than 3 months after exposure -- for most tests, 4-6 weeks. It never takes 6 months, never (even with older tests no longer in use). Pretty much the same tests are marketed and used world wide, and probably all tests in Mexico are just as reliable anywhere else. ...Read more

What is 4th gen hiv test window period for hiv-2 I had 7 negative hiv tests from week 4 up to week 19. Can I move on no matter how high risk it was?

Window 4 weeks: Yes you can move on. The 4th generation HIV tests include HIV2 as well as HIV1, and the results are conclusive any time 4 weeks or more after the last possible exposure. No matter how high the risk, all tests after 4 weeks were unnecessary. Also, HIV2 is rare outside parts of Africa; I don't know data from Albania, but probably very rare. No more testing needed. Best wishes, stay safe! ...Read more

Where can I do nucleic acid in Australia, I have done HIV test 4th gen after week 16 was negative. Should I still need to repeat the test. Alt 39?

HIV testing: Usually recommend testing up to 6 mo after exposure that lead to risk of infection. If negative at that point, very little chance to no chance of infection with HIV at that point. In US we check at time of first visit with us, then 6 weeks, 3 mo and 6 mo from the date of the exposure. WOuld not recommend HIV RNA testing for screening. Hope this helps. Good luck and be safe. ...Read more

For immune disorder is it required HIV test at 6 months? If the test is 4th gen, it should detct antigens if not the antibodies b by 3 months atlest

? Status: Having an immune disorder does not mean you have to have an HIV test but if you are having unprotected sex or with multiple partners, then absolutely! The 4th gen HIV test detects HIV much sooner than 3 months...days to weeks because as you correctly stated, it detects the antigen but also the antibody. With an immune disorder, it may take longer to mount an immune response. 4th gen is preferred. ...Read more

No: Would be helpful to know more about your history, but in a person with relatively normally functioning immune system, 5mg prednisone would not decrease circulating antibody levels (or virus antigen levels). Test will be accurate on this regimen. ...Read more

Hiv Test (Definition)

There are several ways to detect the HIV virus. The first is by antibodies. This includes eia (enzyme immuno assay). The rapid HIV tests are these types. The second way detects proteins on the viral coat (western blot). This is a gel plate electrophoresis. Thirdly there is pcr (polymerase chain reaction). This detects and amplifies dna allowing a viral ...Read more
