Can I take vitamin C pills (always made of sodium/potassium bicarbonate, (sodium bicarbonate) ascorbate, benzoate...) w. pulmonary hypertension requiring low sodium diet?

Can I take vitamin C pills (always made of sodium/potassium bicarbonate, (sodium bicarbonate) ascorbate, benzoate...) w. pulmonary hypertension requiring low sodium diet?

Yes, however...: I strongly advise you take Vitamin C, ideally 1000 mg 2-3x/day, but you should try to find forms without sodium. I don't know what's available in Denmark, but in the US you can find ascorbic acid, or calcium or magnesium ascorbate without sodium. Lypo-spheric Vit. C is esp. well-absorbed,but has 120 mg of sodium, but a low sodium diet usually allows 2000mg/day. Vit. C is best with bioflavonoids. ...Read more

Does sodium bicarbonate kill intestinal parasites?

Does sodium bicarbonate kill intestinal parasites?

No : If you have intestinal parasites you will need a proper diagnosis and the appropriate anti-helminthic (treats worms) or anti parasitic prescribed for you. You need to know exactly what you have. I can't think of anything that is killed by baking soda. You need an evaluation. Good luck. ...Read more

Is sodium picosulphate stronger laxative then lactulose?

Work differently,: However, i how found sodium picosulfate to be stronger. This can be used for colon cleansing prior to colonoscopy prep. Lactulose is an osmotic laxative and tends to cause more bloating and is not quite as effective as evacuating the colon. ...Read more

What causes a high anion gap and low bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate)?

Metabolic Acidosis: In medicine, metabolic acidosis is a condition that occurs when the body produces too much acid or when the kidneys are not removing enough acid from the body. If unchecked, metabolic acidosis leads to acidemia, i.e., blood ph is low (less than 7.35) due to increased production of hydrogen by the body or the inability of the body to form bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) (hco3-) in the kidney. ...Read more

Is using bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) sodium in cooking harmful for pregnants?

No: No, you can safely cook with bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) sodium (baking soda) while pregnant. Most commonly this is used as a leavening agent in baking, but some people might throw some into their spagetti sauce to make it less acidic. Best of luck with what you are preparing! ...Read more

No problem: The ratio seems high because your creatinine is lower than usual. There is nothing with a low creatinine. Women tend to have lower creatinine due to smaller muscle mass, as compared to men. You lab results are fine. ...Read more

Does sweetener zero calories contain lactose sucrose leucine crosscarmellose sodium which is diet sweetener effect on triglycerides like sugar ?

Does sweetener zero calories contain lactose sucrose leucine crosscarmellose sodium which is diet sweetener effect on triglycerides like sugar ?

Sweeteners: Don't have calories, i agree. The trouble is that our taste mechanism is made up of 6 stimulants--- sweet, sour bitter, salt, astringent, and metal. All god made food provides flavor from permutations and combinations of the 6. A single sweet input provides a jolt of pleasure that is addictive. It is brain signals that govern our ability to adapt to our environment. We need to obey diet rules. ...Read more

Ckd patient with hyponatremia. Is it safe to take 650 mg sodium bicarbonate with 40 mg lasix (furosemide) to prevent water retention? Is sodium bicarbonate renoprotective?

Depends: Bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate)) is not reno-protective. However, high acid levels in the blood affect heart function, muscle function and kidney function. Reducing the blood acid level (seen by a rising bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) level or pH level) improves muscle function including the heart which improves kidney circulation. It also allows the kidneys to better control potassium levels. You can help the process by avoiding sodas! ...Read more

What is the difference between potassium chloride and bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate)?

Different molecule: Both Potassium Chloride and bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) are used as potassium supplements with the only difference being the part of molecule (the anion) attached to the potassium. The bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) portion of the molecule acts differently than chloride and is responsible for the fizzing in soday. It is for this reason that potassium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) can be used as an aantacid. ...Read more

Granfather was prescribed kayexalate (sodium polystyrene sulfonate) 60gm and then 45gm today and 45gm tomorrow. Shouldnt he be having bm? How long does it take to start workingk?

Granfather was prescribed kayexalate (sodium polystyrene sulfonate) 60gm and then 45gm today and 45gm tomorrow. Shouldnt he be having bm? How long does it take to start workingk?

Kayex not for BM: Kayexalate (sodium polystyrene sulfonate) is a polystyrene salt resin designed to grab onto the excess potassium (dangerous for heart) while in the intestine. It is not to facilitate bm-it actually increases chance of constipation. So, if he is not having bm, don't rely on kayex to help with that. He will likely need other stimulant to help with bm--maybe lactullose etc..Consult his doc. Good luck. ...Read more
