My recent tests showed MCV at 96; MCH at 33; Platelet count at 129; MPV at 11.8 and CEA at 3.47.I have no medical history or complaints. Please advise?

Need more details: Why did you have your blood count checked in the first place? Do you have any medical problems...if so share with us. Your labs are not showing anything of concern. CEA is not a good test to make a diagnosis of anything, so it is not to be used or trusted unless one had an advanced /known case of Cancer. It misleads more often than it helps. If you still have concerns, send us your CBC results. ...Read more

Cold all the time, extremely tired all the time, stomach issues (diarrhea w/i 1 hr of eating anything), thyroid ok, not c.Diff, what's wrong with me?

Need evaluation: It sounds like you have had some testing done- but there are other conditions that can cause theses symptoms. The first thing would be to clarify if the symptoms are related. As for thyroid eval- which is consistent w your symptoms- make sure a complete panel of test were done. There are other infections, or conditions like celiac disease or irritable bowel syndrome. Go see GI doctor for eval. ...Read more

Quick onset of vomiting, then diarrhea all night. Fever of 99.5 earlier today and now 101. 5. No diarrhea/vomit for 9 hrs. Flu or food poisoning?

CouldHaveBeenEither: Sounds like the"24-hours stomach flu,"but it could be either. Why? You eat something weird?Did anyone else eat it? But then each of you could have gotten that flu at the same time. Fever is more common with the flu. As long as you're on your way to better it's kind of a moot point. Just stay away from those peanut butter and mayonnase sandwiches and the week-old potato soup you found in the garage ...Read more

Acholic stools? : In the absence of bile, the green/brown color of normal stool may be lost. Would expect upper abdominal pain, but may not accompany. If this persists, see your doctor, there may be a gallstone obstructing the drainage from your liver. Jaundice would accompany this. If this stool is one of a kind and doesn't repeat, then it's probably medication/food related. A bile duct stone may be the issue. ...Read more

For 3days friend has nausea vomiting diarrhea.Got IV at ER today-blood test shows gastroenteritis.Does viral show up in blood test?Or just bacterial?

Well, the ER doctor: may have looked a clinical symptoms, history & examination in combination with a Complete blood count with differential (CBC with Diff). The CBC does not make a hard diagnosis but can be suggestive. For instance ^ lymphocytes might suggest a viral infection & ^ neutrophils might suggest a bacterial infection. A culture which was positive for a bacterial pathogen would be strong evidence ...Read more

Six year old woke at 5 a.m. with temp of 101 (mouth)/103 (ear). Woke again at 7, normal temp. Should we be concerned or watching for further symptoms?

Watch for now: Did you give her any fever medication at 5 AM? If yes, that would explain the normal 7 AM temp. If she has a recurrence of her fever and complains of a sore throat, or a cough with chest discomfort, or severe abdominal pain or discomfort passing urine, then have her Pediatrician check her. ...Read more
