Gastrointestinal disturbances are clinical findings in which a person experiences issues in their esophagus, stomach, or intestines such as regurgitation, acid reflux pain in the chest, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or other bowel movement changes.

Strep: If the strep test was positive, you likely have the infection in your entire oral pharynx (mouth/tonsils). Do not worry about what side unless you continue to have pain on one side or swelling, then you must become concerned with an abscess. If the penicillin is causing you GI upset, call your doctor to consider a change in your antibiotics. ...Read more

I am taking metformin 500 mg only once a day. It causes some GI upset but nothing crazy. I have some insulin resistance, is this dose effective enough?

Metformin dosing: Metformin should be taken with meals to help reduce GI upset and side effects. 500mg is a starting dose and can be titrated up. Max dose is 2500mg daily. Diet and exercise will also help control DM. As always, consult with your physician/endocrinologist. ...Read more

Probable reflux: Several possibilities. It sounds like it has not been long term. No mention of injury so probably not spleen, onset with lying down indicates a high probability of esophageal reflux, possibly gastritis. Since it seems to be recent onset (3 days) in a 36 year old man and the pain is now severe, he may have helicobacter pylori gastritis and peptic ulcer disease. .H. Pylori is felt to cause ulcers. ...Read more

Probably side effect: Your comment is on target. Gastrointestinal side effects of Buspar (buspirone) including nausea have occurred in up to 11% of patients. Constipation, diarrhea and vomiting have also been reported. Consult prescriber regarding this side effect, discontinuation, and alternative if medication necessary. ...Read more
