PPI not the answer?: There are lots of stomach diseases that cause dyspepsia poorly responsive to PPI's. These can be categorized as: problems with inflammation (e.g. Ulcers), with infection (e.g. H.pylori or parasites), with motility (examples: gastroparesis, gastric outlet obstruction), with secretion (hyper or hypo-acidity), infiltrative (lymphoma, cancer), blood flow (gastropathies), functional dyspepsias, etc. ...Read more

It is OTC...several brands like Prilosec, Prevacid and Nexium (esomeprazole). Just ask your doctor, If the symptoms are stubborn..or re-occur...see a GI doc for an endoscopy. ...Read more

Frequent inflammatory digestion with gastritis symptoms. Sibo could be underlying reason? Would love to cure root problem instead of prescriptions.
My GI doc is saying that my gastritis symptoms are not in proportion to what she observed on endoscopy. She is saying I need pain modulation therapy??
Gastritis: The physical findings, I suspect result of a direct visualization, likely scope, are not impressive enough to justify the amount of pain or discomfort you are experiencing. There are 2 possible options, to look for a different source for the pain or having it addressed as chronic pain with no organic substrate and this maybe the context pain modulation therapy may help with as referred to. ...Read more

Gastritis is common: Gastritis is common, but certain serious underlying problems such as malignancy need to be ruled out if it does not respond to therapy. No: Metaplasia of the mucolsal cells of the stomach represents a prevancerous state leading to a malignant ulcer or diffuse areas of carcinoma. Gastritis sympotoms have to do with acid production with benign ulceration and inflammation unrelated to precancer. My daughter was admitted to hospital a few weeks ago and diagnosed with gastritis. The symptoms passed after a few days but now the pain is back, what should we do.
There are many: MANY causes of abdominal pain, gastritis is one of the more common causes. Have her go see a GI specialist. In the meantime, try PPI such as omeprazole. It should help if pain is caused by acid over production causing gastritis. If she is unable to eat/drink, develops diarrhea, fever, chills, or worsening pain especially in lower abdomen, she needs to go to ED, it could be appendicitis. ...Read more
