Return to your doc.: If you are still having symptoms after one month of a PPI, you should return to your doctor to see if further testing needs to be done, or if you need a different medication or a change in the dosage of the current one. In the meantime, it will not hurt to add over-the-counter antacids, such as Tums, (calcium carbonate) to your regimen. Good luck. ...Read more

I've been diagnosed with gastritis but my PPI doesn't seem to be helping this time. I have awful burning pain in my upper abdomen. What else can I try?

Gastritis: The usual treatment for gastritis is antacids and medications that decrease the production of acid in your stomach. I assume you are on these medications. You can buy them yourself in the pharmacy. Omeprazole is an example of medication you can buy over the counter. If despite these medications you continue to have symptoms, you need to see a gastroenterologist and have endoscopy. ...Read more

I was dx. 5 mo. Ago with bile reflux gastritis s/p lap choly. Reglan/PPI not working to control n/v & constant burning in esophagus. Other options?

Bile reflux gastriti: Discuss with your doctor use of carafate, (sucralfate) adding ranitidine or even adding Questran which binds bile acid (usually used for diarrhea). They now have a new system called LINX -a magnetic bracelet for the lower esophageal sphincter which helps close the gastroesophageal sphincter and prevents reflux. Total confusion: Acne is not related to B12. Why B12? How did you arrive at the diagnosis of gastritis? NO GASTRITIS IS CAUSED BY SPICY FOODS OR ACIDIC FOODS. This silly idea was thrown out 60 years ago. It may be related to smoking, alcohol, meds, H. Pylori bacteria.Coconut water is not effective therapy for gastritis or anything else. ...Read more

Had virus go through me 5 months ago. Caused major gastritis and stomach intestinal metaplasia. Gastritis not healing. Using PPI and H2 blockers.????

More to this.: I hate to say it, but I simply am not convinced that a viral infection five months ago would solely explain all of this. There may be something else going on here that requires an investigation and proper diagnosis. You need to be evaluated and tested by gastroenterologist. ...Read more

Find a better Dr: Are you ALLERGIC to aspirin? Sensitive people get asthma, coughing, or hives from it. Gastritis due to prostaglandin inhibition is a function of dose. Taking 4 adult size aspirin daily will cause stomach symptoms in many people. Taking a large dose makes no sense. If you are allergic to it, avoid it. Why diphenhydramine? It is used mostly as a sleeping pill. There are better antihistamines. Do you ...Read more

Taking pantoprozole 40 mg in the morning and ranitidine 300 mg at bed time but still have chronic burning like gastritis and indigestion all the time?

Burning: Stomach ulcers caused by the H pylori bacteria may get a little better with antacids, but won't go away unless the bacteria is cleared. You might consider getting tested. The other possibility is functional dyspepsia which may respond to other meds. Talk with your GI about the cause of your symptoms. ...Read more

If I have gastritis & im on Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) but I still have nausea, acid indigestion, etc. Does this mean Dexilant (dexlansoprazole) is not working? Do I switch ppi's?

Depends...: ...Duration of treatment, dose of dexilant, (dexlansoprazole) inciting factors (ongoing NSAID use, tobacco, alcohol), likelihood of excessive acid production (e.g. Gastrinoma), risk factors (e.g. Prior ulcers, family history), biopsy results. Please provide your prescribing doctor with your response to these questions so he can best advise you. ...Read more

What can cause the sensation of burning in stomach, without acid reflux and negative for h. pylori? Could it still be ulcer or gastritis?

Dyspepsia: It could be ulcer or gastritis. Have you tried OTC meds like zantac (ranitidine) or prilosec? If these have not helped at all then you need to see a GI specialist for further testing. If you haven't tried these meds then try for 2 weeks. ...Read more

Is it normal to wake up super hungry with stomach pain if I have gastritis and gallstones? Had a banana and still super hungry with burning sensation

Can be: Gastritis can be the source of burning sensation and is typically treated with antacids or medications that coat your stomach, protecting it from the excess and erosive acids. I was diagnosed with precancer colon polyps and internal hemorrhoids and gastritis. Still have blood in stool with burning in my abdomen should I worry?

Depends: Gastritis should improve with dietary modifications, acid blockers, and possible H pylori treatment; if not, further evaluation may be needed. Colon polyps should be followed with colonoscopy anywhere from 6 months to 5 years later, depending on type of polyp and confidence in that it was completely removed. Internal hems bleed and the source needs to be addressed - constipation, straining, etc ...Read more

After 8 weeks of Nexium&Protonix40mg treatment egd still shows erosive gastritis. No biopsy taken due to Plavix (clopidogrel). What blood/other testing do I need?

Focus correct issues: Plavix & aspirin usually Rx'ed for arterial disease plaque ruptures. But aspirin & NSAIDsgastritis, avoid. Optimize NMR-lipoproteins (get LDL-P to <400-700 nmol/dL), HbA1c <5.0%, SBP <120 mmHg, go HFLC foods & then stop the Plavix. The proton pump inhibitors you're taking tend to help but do not cure. Focus on causes of the gastritis. Study my answers, http://goo. Gl/7IyXwY & DietDoctor. Com. ...Read more

63 year-old woman still has continuous mild stomach pain affecting her daily life, despite 3 yrs of medical treatment for gastritis found after.....?

Interesting: From your treatment so far it looks like that you have had a good workup. Two things may have been overlooked like your diet, your emotional situation. Your obesity might indicate irritating and poor choice of foods. Snoring might indicate restless sleep that may indicate an ear, nose & throat problem or a psychiatric problem. Please consult with your family physician. & see him/her for a referral to a psychologist. ...Read more

How come my mild gastritis won't heal if I don't have bacteria no NSAID, on bland diet, taking Carafate (sucralfate) PPIs??? 3 months in pain.

No longer mild: The pain pattern is critical in establishing the diagnosis, before or after meals, periods of high stress, etc. How was your diagnosis made? In case you did not have an upper endoscopy, you might need one. Would recommend that you keep a log with the type of food/ drinks that you ingest and the timing/character of your pain and bring it to your follow-up visit. ...Read more

Why most of the doctors prefer to use ppis to "treat" (hide the symptoms) gerd, gastritis and ulcers instead of misopostrol that is a way less harmful?

Think again...: First, I'm not sure what you mean by "way less harmful." neither drug is side effect free. Second, ppi's effect healing of peptic damage, not just "hide the symptoms." please refer to the many excellent healthtap answers regarding drug safety and efficacy, and of treatment options for gerd/gastritis/ulcers. ...Read more
