OTC antacids : Prescription drugs- zantac tagamet Omeprazole Nexium (esomeprazole) etc would help reduce the acidity. Rx pain medication: Can also worsen GERD by decreasing gastric motility and increasing transit time of food through your gut if the medications are opiate drugs. If they are NSAIDs they worsen GERD by increasing acid production. Possibly viral: Gastroenteritis (aka food-borne illness). Otc emitrol may help settle stomach as might pepto-bismol. Keep hydrated with sips of water/vitamin water/gatorade/ jello; gradually increase amount of fluid. Then can try brat diet: bananas, plain cooked rice (no milk), applesauce, plain toast (no butter/jelly, peanut butter). If not improved within day or 2, see fp for further work-up. ...Read more
